An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic person to join the Forth Valley Department of Nutrition & Dietetics as a Dietetic Assistant.
The role of a Dietetic Assistant is to support the Registered Dietitians in their day-to-day work, aiding in the assessment, monitoring and review of patients, assisting in the delivery of education and training and to a lesser extent, patient related administrative duties e.g. stock control and ordering. There are opportunities to work within a variety of settings and services including but not exclusively supporting people who are undernourished, those that reliant on tube feeds and those with long term conditions such as kidney disease, diabetes and rehabilitation services.
Part of this role will be delivered in hospital ward settings where the post holder will need to work with patients who are unwell, and who may be distressed or emotional. Working in a ward environment can be fast-paced and demanding and includes working with a background of clinical activities, sights and smells. For example, patients who are having kidney dialysis, patients with lines and catheters or wounds, patients who have difficulty communicating or swallowing.
The successful post holder must be committed to supporting people and interested in the role of nutrition in health. They will have experience of working with the public or a range of clients/customers. Experience in a health or social care environment is highly desirable. They must be able to work as part of a team, have good organisational and communication skills and possess basic IT skills. Once in post, further training will be given specific to the role.
This post will be predominantly based in Forth Valley Royal Hospital, but the post holder will be expected to provide cover to other sites across the breadth of Forth Valley and be able to work with both inpatient and outpatients in a variety of locations.
The Forth Valley Dietetic team is a friendly and proactive team providing inpatient and outpatient services within Forth Valley Royal Hospital, 4 Community Hospitals and within Community Services. This post will be part of a large team of dietitians providing a wide variety of clinical specialities along with a small team of dietetic assistants and an administrative team. Everyone is expected to actively contribute to a full range of departmental activities and have positive and proactive team responsibilities.

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
