The Company

We offer a breadth and depth of expertise in such markets as distribution, industrial and instrumentation, medical, military, aerospace, automotive and telecommunications.

The Role
We are seeking a skilled EDM Machinist to join our precision toolroom team. This role is essential in supporting the production of high-precision tooling, components, and dies used within our manufacturing processes.

You will be responsible for setting up and operating both Wire EDM and Die Sink (Spark Erosion) EDM machines, working to tight tolerances and producing complex, high-quality parts from engineering drawings and CAD data.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate Wire EDM machines to manufacture precision components and tooling
Set up and operate Die Sink EDM machines for complex cavity machining
Interpret engineering drawings, CAD data, and technical specifications
Prepare and mount electrodes and workpieces with accurate alignment
Select appropriate machining parameters, offsets, and programs
Produce parts to tight tolerances and surface finish requirements
Make program adjustments and basic programming changes where required
Perform in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment
Carry out routine machine maintenance and cleaning
Troubleshoot machining issues and optimise performance
Collaborate with toolmakers, engineers, and machinists to meet production needs
Maintain accurate production records and follow quality procedures
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

We’re looking for someone with strong technical expertise and a keen eye for detail, ideally with experience in a precision manufacturing or toolroom environment.

Essential:

Proven experience setting and operating:
Wire EDM machines
Die Sink EDM machines
Strong understanding of EDM principles, including electrode wear compensation
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
Experience working to tight tolerances
Skilled in the use of precision measuring equipment
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
High attention to detail and quality standards

Desirable:

Experience in tooling, moulds, or progressive die manufacture
Knowledge of CAM software for EDM programming
Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing tooling
Understanding of electrode manufacture and management
Background in a toolroom or precision engineering environment

Qualifications:

Apprenticeship in Toolmaking, Machining, or Precision Engineering (or equivalent experience)
NVQ / City & Guilds in Engineering or Manufacturing (or equivalent)
Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (desirable)
