Full job description

Overview

We are seeking a friendly and organised Convenience Store Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining store presentation, and ensuring smooth daily operations. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic retail environment where communication skills and organisational abilities are highly valued. Fluency in multiple languages, particularly English and Spanish, is advantageous to assist a diverse customer base. The position is paid and suitable for individuals eager to contribute to a welcoming shopping experience.

Duties

Greet customers warmly and assist them with their purchases
Operate the cash register efficiently, handling cash, card payments, and refunds
Restock shelves with merchandise, ensuring products are well-presented and organised
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the store environment
Provide product information and upsell items to maximise sales opportunities
Manage stock levels through merchandising techniques and inventory checks
Answer customer enquiries via phone or in person with professionalism and courtesy
Follow health and safety procedures diligently to ensure a safe shopping environment
Assist with store opening and closing procedures as required

Skills

Fluency in English; proficiency in Spanish or other languages is a plus
Strong communication skills to engage effectively with customers and team members
Organisational skills to manage stock, organise displays, and keep the store tidy
Basic maths skills for handling transactions accurately
Time management abilities to prioritise tasks during busy periods
Phone etiquette for professional customer interactions over the phone or via messaging platforms
Upselling skills to promote additional products and maximise sales opportunities
Merchandising knowledge to create attractive product displays that encourage purchases
