We provide a safe, secure and nurturing environment for the children. we focus on effective teaching and learning which includes providing opportunities for playing and exploring. Children are given a wide range of learning opportunities. Children explore and learn through child- initiated play with adults helping to extend their learning and development. Children engage in a range of learning experiences, exploring a variety of religions, cultures, background to widen their development and understanding. We maintain standards in accordance with OFSTED regulations and constantly develop and improve on practice.
Job description
Job title – Nursery Manager in early years and childcare. Full time position, but will consider term time.
Essential qualifications required: Relevant Level 3 or 4 as defined by Teaching Agency (DoE) and above in Childcare, Learning and development or an equivalent qualification. Minimum 3 years management experience.
Purpose of role To deliver high quality education and care through play for children aged 6wks – 5 years in an inclusive well established Nursery setting.
Working hours The nursery is open from 8.00am to 6.00pm. The manager will be working 37.5 hours per week extended a couple of hours per month to allow for staff meetings. this position is full time only, but may consider term time.
Section 2 - Duties
- To ensure that a caring and stimulating environment is provided for the children that takes into account individual developmental needs and enables children to reach their full potential.
- To ensure that requirements of OFSTED and children act are met, in particular, with respect to safe guarding guidelines.
- In suspected cases of professional abuse, to follow Little Angels Day Nursery policy and procedure as of immediate effect.
- To facilitate planning with the staff team to ensure that children’s learning needs are met in appropriate and creative ways, in accordance with the EYFS.
- To uphold and enforce the Staff Rules and regulations as laid down by the Little Angels Day Nursery.
- To maintain all required health, hygiene, safety and fire regulations throughout the nursery.
- To provide support and supervision of staff meetings and staff appraisals in accordance with Little Angels Day Nursery policy, with relevant feedback to the Management Committee via Centre Manager.
- Maintenance of service provision in all areas with overall responsibility for consistently high standard and quality of delivery of practice in all room areas.
- Supervision and monitoring of any complaints, including interviews to parents/carers or staff and referral to Centre Manager when required.
- To be available to work on a flexible shift basis as emergency cover within the nursery.
- Responsible for overall security of the nursery building including opening and locking up the nursery.
- To recognise the individual needs of each family and to offer appropriate support and guidance including liaison with other childcare professional e.g Health visitors, speech therapist etc as appropriate.
- To receive appropriate supervision both professionally and managerially and attend appropriate training and development sessions.
- To ensure the nursery is maintained in a need organised and safe manner and is an attractive, stimulating and exciting environment for children.
- Knowledge and understanding of EYFS and development matters.
- To ensure that adequate staff cover exists in all areas at all times, allocating staff to areas of need when required and ensuring cover for holidays and sickness.
- Implementation of staff Induction programmes.
- To review and implement policies and procedures of the nursery to ensure equality of access for children and families.
- To organise and attend open/parents evenings and promote staff- parent/carer relations or any working partnerships throughout the nursery.
- To organise trips and outings, visitors and special events, including fund-raising activities.
- To be responsible for staff training and identification of training needs including staff recruitment and development.
Section 3 – Personal specification
- Knowledge and experience of delivering high quality Early Years Foundation Stage practice including implementing the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice
- Knowledge and experience of planning effectively for and supporting children’s individual needs.
- Ability and willingness to meet children’s personal and intimate care needs sensitively and to lift, carry and move children, equipment and resources
- Ability to observe and record children’s learning and development effectively
- Ability to work on own initiative and with others in a multi-disciplinary team in a busy environment, including implementing agreed strategies for children’s learning and writing coherent and concise reports
- Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively through oral and written communication, (including listening,) with children and adults
- Knowledge of the required procedures for safeguarding children
- Knowledge and understanding of Equal Opportunities, of anti-discriminatory practice in working with children and their parents/carers and knowledge of required Health and Safety procedures
- Ability to adhere to policies regarding confidentiality
- A willingness to attend appropriate training courses to promote professional development and to keep up to date through professional reading
- A willingness to extend working hours to allow for planning time and other meetings by prior arrangement
- Ability to share responsibility for the induction of students and volunteers by arrangement
- Ability to reflect on and evaluate practice and communicate ideas and opinions effectively to others
- Ability to respond sensitively and appropriately to all users of the Nursery
