The Great Cake Company is a specialist trade-bakery producing exclusively Gluten-Free cakes and savoury bakes for our trade customers which typically include; coffee shops, health food shops, farm shops and producing on behalf of some prestigious brands; as well as our direct retail presence at Farmers Markets in the region. We are a small team and growing. We are passionate about gluten-free baking and created award-winning products combined with a high quality reputation over the last 15 years of operations.
Job description
Growing demand and new product development means that we are looking to expand production and recruit someone to work along side our award-winning production director, Debbie Hicks, who prior to taking on this business spent many years in top London hotels and 6-years at Harrods honing her pastry skills. It's an important and challenging role requiring a high degree of flexibility on the part of the candidate to work to fit around the demanding schedule of our customers. The role requires a high degree of attentiveness and comprehension to understand and execute our methods and work to our exacting and consistent standards. Training will naturally be provided but the essential basic-skills will need to come with you.
The role is working alongside Debbie and the team preparing customer orders, preparing ingredients, creating the cakes and bakes (this includes a range of savoury products too) and working through the end-to-end process including packing where required.
The bakery operates from Monday to Friday each week from 8am - 8pm although Thursdays are currently a lighter day. The production kitchen is closed at the weekends.
We are looking for someone who is skilful and passionate about baking and brings their experience to the role. All the usual kitchen routines can be assumed such as; opening procedures, cleaning down, washing up and closing procedures. We hold a 5* Food Standards Rating and all daily, weekly & monthly routines are managed through the LEAFE app. All staff are required to hold a minimum Level 2 Health & Hygiene and Allergen training although if this has lapsed we will support a re-qualification. Familiarity with HACCP compliance principles is and advantage.
Salary is conditional upon skills and experience. Full-time is a minimum of 40 hours per week. 28 days annual holiday entitlement to included bank holidays (which are normal working days for us). Pro-rata for Part-time depending on hours etc.
We are based in a rural location so being able to travel/drive to the premises is essential. Free off-street parking is available.
