About Nolato PPT

Nolato PPT is a specialist manufacturer of EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility), EMI and RF shielding products, supplying high-quality solutions to customers across the defence, technology and industrial sectors. As part of the global Nolato Group, we combine specialist technical expertise with a strong focus on quality, innovation and continuous improvement.

Based in Maldon, Essex, we manufacture a diverse range of specialist products including conductive elastomers, environmental seals and gaskets, oriented wire materials, attenuated vents and knitted wire products.

We are now looking for an experienced and proactive QA Supervisor to join our team and play a key role in maintaining and continually improving the quality of our products, processes and systems.

The Role

As QA Supervisor, you will work closely with the Plant Manager, Production Manager and Production teams to ensure that our products consistently meet customer specifications, engineering drawings, quality standards and applicable regulatory requirements.

This is a hands-on role combining quality assurance, quality control, team supervision, problem solving, Six Sigma methodology and continuous improvement.

You will provide day-to-day leadership within the quality function, supporting the inspection team and acting as an important link between Quality, Production, Engineering and other departments.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working on the shop floor, investigating problems, making informed quality decisions and challenging processes where necessary to ensure the highest standards are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurance & Quality Control
Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Quality/Inspection team.
Ensure first-off, in-process and final inspections are completed accurately and on time.
Ensure products are manufactured and inspected in accordance with customer drawings, specifications, quality standards and approved procedures.
Carry out and oversee dimensional, visual, physical and electrical testing as required.
Ensure appropriate inspection plans, sampling requirements and quality checks are followed.
Review quality records and ensure full traceability of inspection and test results.
Non-Conformance & Corrective Action
Lead investigations into internal and customer non-conformances and support the preparation and completion of corrective and preventative actions
Identify recurring defects and trends and work with Production and Engineering to eliminate their root causes.
Support the maintenance and continual improvement of the company's Quality Management System (QMS).
Ensure quality procedures, work instructions, inspection documentation and records remain accurate and current.
Support and manage Regulatory Compliance & Management Systems against ISO9001 (Quality Management) and ISO14001 (Environmental Management) standards
Support compliance with ISO 9001 & ISO14001 and customer-specific quality requirements.
Assist with internal, external and customer audits.
Promote a culture where quality is everyone's responsibility.
Apply Lean Six Sigma principles to identify and eliminate sources of variation, waste and defects within manufacturing processes.
Work with Production and Engineering to improve Right First Time (RFT) performance and reduce scrap, rework, defects and customer complaints.
Train and mentor inspectors and production personnel in quality requirements, inspection methods and the correct use of measuring equipment.
Monitor performance and identify training and development requirements.
Calibration & Inspection Equipment
Ensure any equipment found to be out of calibration is appropriately quarantined and affected product is assessed.
Responding to customers on quality queries and complaints.
Take responsibility for Health and Safety across the site, inclusive of Legislation, Regulations, Audits and internal processes.

About You

We are looking for someone who is hands-on, technically minded and confident leading people, with a genuine passion for quality, problem solving and continuous improvement.

You will ideally have:

Previous experience in a Quality Assurance, Quality Control or Inspection role within a manufacturing environment.
Experience supervising or leading a team.
Strong knowledge of manufacturing quality processes, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
Experience applying structured problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions.
The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Experience using precision measuring equipment such as verniers, micrometers, gauges and other inspection equipment.
Experience with non-conformance management, Root Cause Analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
Good understanding of ISO 9001 and Quality Management Systems.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Competence using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

Experience or qualifications in any of the following would be advantageous:

Lean Six Sigma
Practical experience using the DMAIC methodology.
Statistical Process Control (SPC) & Sampling procedures.
Process capability studies and statistical analysis.
Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement.
8D and structured Root Cause Analysis.
First Article Inspection (FAI/FAIR).
Internal auditing.
Calibration and measurement systems.
EMC/EMI or RF shielding products knowledge.
Silicone, rubber, elastomer or polymer manufacturing.
Defence, aerospace or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
