Senior Host / Barista / Bartender – AAA Vinyl Coffee House & Bar
Location: Cold Bath Road, Harrogate
Role: Part-Time, Permanent — 20 hours per week guaranteed over 4 days
Pay: £14,820 per annum based on 20 hours per week, plus paid overtime
About AAA
AAA is an independent vinyl coffee house and bar in Harrogate.
We’re specialty coffee by day, a bar by night, and music runs through everything we do. Vinyl, great sound, good drinks and proper hospitality are all part of the experience.
But what really makes AAA work is how people feel when they walk through the door.
We’re looking for an experienced hospitality person who understands that great service is about more than taking an order. It’s noticing people, remembering faces, reading the room and making customers feel genuinely looked after.
Someone who can host.
Is this you?
You’re the sort of person who naturally looks after people.
You’re comfortable chatting with customers, but you also know when someone wants to be left alone with a coffee and a record.
You notice the glass that needs collecting, the table that needs wiping, the customer who has been waiting a little too long and the hundred other tiny details that make a place feel properly cared for.
You’re self-motivated, reliable and comfortable taking responsibility for a shift without needing somebody constantly looking over your shoulder.
And, ideally, you love music.
You certainly don’t need encyclopaedic knowledge or the ability to identify an obscure pressing from across the room, but music is a big part of AAA, so enjoying it definitely helps.
What you’ll be doing
- Hosting: Welcoming customers and providing warm, attentive and genuinely personal hospitality.
- Coffee: Preparing and serving coffee to a consistently high standard.
- The Bar: Serving beer, wine, spirits and other drinks responsibly.
- Opening & Closing: Taking responsibility for opening or closing AAA as required.
- Keyholding: Working independently and holding keys once fully trained.
- The Floor: Keeping the bar and customer areas clean, organised and welcoming throughout your shift.
- The Details: Spotting what needs doing and getting on with it without waiting to be asked.
- The Team: Supporting a small team and helping provide holiday and busy-period cover when needed.
- The Atmosphere: Helping maintain the relaxed, friendly and music-led environment that makes AAA what it is.
Hours
This is a salaried position based on a guaranteed minimum of 20 hours per week, normally worked across four days.
Those four days may vary from week to week depending on the rota.
You must therefore be available for a mixture of:
- Day shifts
- Evening shifts
- Weekend shifts
Shifts will normally involve either opening or closing AAA, rather than working from opening right through until close.
There will often be opportunities for additional hours, particularly during busy periods and holiday cover.
Any hours worked above your contracted 20 hours will be paid as overtime at your normal equivalent hourly rate.
What matters most
- Hospitality: You genuinely enjoy looking after people.
- Experience: Previous bar, café, coffee shop or hospitality experience is strongly preferred.
- Responsibility: You’re comfortable working independently and taking ownership of your shift.
- Attention to detail: You notice the little things and care about standards.
- Confidence: You’re comfortable talking to customers and making people feel welcome.
- Self-motivation: You don’t need someone standing behind you telling you what needs doing.
- Reliability: We’re a small team, so being dependable genuinely matters.
- Music: You have an interest in music and enjoy working somewhere where it forms an important part of the atmosphere.
Experience we’d particularly value
Previous keyholder experience would be a real advantage.
A Personal Licence would also be highly desirable, although it isn’t essential.
Full training will be provided on our coffee, drinks, systems and ways of working.
What’s in it for you?
- Guaranteed salaried hours
- Paid overtime for additional hours
- Staff discount
- Full training
- A trusted role within a small independent business
- The opportunity to work somewhere where personality and hospitality actually matter
We’re not looking for somebody simply to cover shifts.
We’re looking for someone we can trust with AAA — someone who takes pride in the place, looks after the people in it and understands that creating a great atmosphere starts with great hospitality.
The music sounds better with you.
