About the Role
At Villa Maido Health and Rehabilitation Services, we are committed to helping individuals achieve meaningful improvements in communication, swallowing and everyday independence through personalised rehabilitation support.
We are looking for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to provide assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services for adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. You will work closely with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, rehabilitation professionals, nursing teams and other specialists to develop individualised treatment plans based on each person's needs and goals.
This position offers the opportunity to manage your own clinical caseload while contributing to multidisciplinary rehabilitation programmes. You will use evidence-based therapeutic approaches, monitor progress and adapt interventions to support effective and sustainable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Specialist Assessment: Complete comprehensive speech, language, communication and swallowing assessments for individuals with a range of rehabilitation needs.
Individual Treatment Planning: Develop personalised therapy programmes based on clinical findings, functional needs and agreed rehabilitation goals.
Communication Rehabilitation: Provide specialist intervention for speech, language, cognitive-communication and related difficulties.
Swallowing Support: Assess and support individuals experiencing eating, drinking or swallowing difficulties within your professional competence.
Clinical Caseload Management: Manage an allocated caseload independently while prioritising referrals according to clinical need.
Goal Setting: Establish realistic and measurable rehabilitation goals in collaboration with individuals, families and the wider multidisciplinary team.
Therapeutic Intervention: Deliver individual and group therapy using appropriate evidence-based approaches.
Progress Monitoring: Evaluate treatment effectiveness and modify intervention plans according to progress and changing needs.
Multidisciplinary Working: Work closely with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, rehabilitation staff and other professionals involved in an individual's care.
Clinical Documentation: Maintain clear, accurate and timely clinical records, treatment plans and progress notes.
Report Preparation: Produce professional assessment reports, rehabilitation summaries and recommendations when required.
Family and Carer Support: Provide practical guidance to families and carers regarding communication strategies and therapy programmes.
Communication Strategies: Develop practical strategies that help individuals communicate more effectively during everyday activities.
Alternative Communication: Recommend and support appropriate communication aids or alternative and augmentative communication approaches where suitable.
Functional Rehabilitation: Ensure therapeutic activities are relevant to everyday communication, independence and participation.
Discharge Planning: Contribute to discharge planning and provide recommendations for continued therapy or community support.
Referral Management: Review incoming referrals and gather relevant information before assessment.
Clinical Reviews: Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and rehabilitation planning meetings.
Risk Management: Identify and communicate clinical risks associated with communication or swallowing difficulties.
Care Planning: Contribute specialist recommendations to individual rehabilitation and support plans.
Outcome Measurement: Use appropriate clinical outcome measures to evaluate rehabilitation progress.
Therapy Resources: Develop and maintain appropriate therapeutic resources and patient information materials.
Service Coordination: Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure continuity of rehabilitation support.
Professional Communication: Explain assessments, treatment recommendations and progress clearly to individuals and relevant stakeholders.
Clinical Reasoning: Apply sound professional judgement when determining appropriate intervention approaches.
Complex Cases: Support individuals with more complex communication or rehabilitation requirements within the scope of the role.
Team Guidance: Provide professional advice to colleagues regarding communication-support techniques.
Staff Education: Deliver practical guidance or training to rehabilitation staff where communication strategies form part of an individual's programme.
Quality Improvement: Contribute to service-development and clinical-quality initiatives.
Audit Support: Participate in relevant clinical audits and service reviews.
Evidence-Based Practice: Maintain awareness of developments in speech and language therapy and incorporate appropriate evidence into clinical practice.
Professional Standards: Maintain appropriate professional boundaries, confidentiality and ethical standards.
Safeguarding: Recognise and appropriately report safeguarding concerns in accordance with organisational procedures.
Information Governance: Handle clinical and personal information responsibly and confidentially.

What We Are Looking For
Professional Qualification: A recognised degree or postgraduate qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
Professional Registration: Appropriate professional registration required to practise as a Speech and Language Therapist in the United Kingdom.
Clinical Experience: Previous experience delivering speech and language therapy within healthcare, rehabilitation, community or related clinical services.
Specialist Knowledge: Good understanding of communication disorders and therapeutic approaches used within rehabilitation.
Assessment Skills: Confidence completing structured clinical assessments and developing appropriate treatment recommendations.
Rehabilitation Experience: Experience working with individuals requiring multidisciplinary rehabilitation would be advantageous.
Communication Disorders: Practical experience supporting speech, language or cognitive-communication difficulties.
Swallowing Experience: Experience assessing or supporting dysphagia is desirable where appropriate to professional competence and training.
Caseload Management: Ability to organise and prioritise a varied clinical caseload effectively.
Clinical Documentation: Strong ability to maintain detailed, accurate and professional clinical records.
Multidisciplinary Working: Confidence collaborating with professionals from different clinical and rehabilitation disciplines.
Person-Centred Practice: Ability to involve individuals in decisions about their therapy and rehabilitation goals.

Pay: £37,000.00-£43,000.00 per year
