Todds Nursery is a modern tree, hedge and large shrub nursery in the village of Southill, near Biggleswade. As part of the Urban&Civic Group, we're investing in becoming one of the UK's leading suppliers of semi-mature trees and landscape products and we're expanding the team that makes it happen.

We're looking for Tree Nursery Operatives to join us. Previous horticultural experience is welcome but not essential. What matters more is a genuine interest in working outdoors, a willingness to learn, and the reliability to be part of a small team where everyone's contribution counts.

The Role

No two days look the same, but your work will span:

Tree care and production — pruning, potting, caning, feeding, transplanting and planting; standing fallen trees; inspecting for pests and disease and treating where needed.
Grounds and site maintenance — hand weeding, weed spraying, grass and hedge cutting, strimming, verge and ditch maintenance, litter picking and waste segregation. And yes, looking after the nursery chickens.
Irrigation and fertigation — maintaining and repairing irrigation systems, storing and applying fertiliser, running fertigation.
Dispatch and logistics — preparing trees for dispatch to the highest standards, loading and unloading safely, assisting with deliveries.
Equipment and vehicles — operating agricultural vehicles and machinery, plus routine maintenance.
Wider duties — supporting commercial and private planting projects, keeping storage, welfare and external areas tidy, and upholding our sustainability and environmental standards.

About You

You'll need:

A positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.
To be reliable, honest and professional.
Good communication and organisational skills, working well alone and as part of a team.
A practical, flexible approach to solving problems.
To be comfortable being outdoors in all weathers — and to genuinely enjoy it.
A full UK driving licence.

Helpful to have, but we'll train you if not:

PA1/PA6 spraying certificates.
LANTRA, NPORS or CPCS qualifications.
First Aid training.
NVQ or other horticultural qualifications.
