Vara Sports and Education is looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and caring Sports Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join our team at St Oswald's CE Primary School in Mollington, Chester. You will work alongside experienced school staff, supporting PE lessons, lunchtime activity, after school spory and wraparound care.
This is a fantastic first step for anyone starting out in sport, coaching or education.
Your Hours and Salary
This role is 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 12pm to 6pm at St Oswald's.
We offer flexibility to suit you. You can work term time only with your salary spread evenly across all 12 months, giving you a steady income all year round including the school holidays. If you would like to earn more, you can also join our team at our holiday sports camps during the school breaks for a higher overall salary. Either way we will make sure the package works brilliantly for you.
What You Will Be Doing
- Working as a teaching assistant, supporting children in the classroom with their learning
- Providing in class support during lessons, including small group and 1:1 work
- Supporting the delivery of high quality PE lessons across the school
- Leading and supporting active lunchtimes, games and playground activity
- Assisting with after school sports clubs and enrichment
- Supporting children in wraparound care until 6pm
- Building positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents
- Helping children develop confidence, teamwork and a love of learning and being active
- Supporting children of all abilities, including those with SEND
- Upholding the highest standards of safeguarding and professionalism at all times
Your Qualification
While you work, you will complete the Level 3 PE and School Sport Coaching qualification, delivered in partnership with an amazing training provider. This is a brilliant course that qualifies you as both a Level 3 Teaching Assistant and a Level 3 Sports Coach in one qualification.
The course covers:
- Communication and professional relationships
- Understanding child and young person development
- Safeguarding
- Planning, delivering and reviewing PE and school sport programmes
Course details:
- 12 mandatory units totalling 54 credits
- Assessed through coursework, practical demonstration, professional discussion and a portfolio of evidence
- Can be completed within 12 months
- No specific entry requirements, though practical elements will be assessed and you should have confident communication skills

- Level 4 Diploma in Primary Physical Education Practice
- Level 4 Certificate in Education
Many of our apprentices go on to become full time coaches, teaching assistants and PE specialists within the Vara family.

No previous school experience is essential. We will provide full training, mentoring and support throughout your apprenticeship. However, any experience working with children, coaching sports, volunteering, helping at clubs or supporting in a school setting would be beneficial.
