Vehicle Buyer / Used Stock Buyer

RW Cars Ltd – Derby
Salary: £30,420 basic salary, with OTE up to £45,000 once fully trained
Hours: 32.5 hours per week
Job type: Part-time / permanent, with some evening and weekend work
Location: Derby, with some working from home once fully trained

About the role

RW Cars Ltd is looking for a motivated and detail-focused Vehicle Buyer / Used Stock Buyer to help source and purchase quality used vehicles for our dealership.

This is a massively important role within the business and would suit someone who has a strong interest in cars, understands used vehicle values, and is confident working with online buying platforms. Full training will be provided, but previous experience in the motor trade, vehicle buying, sales, valuations or stock management would be a strong advantage.

You will be involved in choosing suitable vehicles, calculating deductions, placing bids, and helping ensure purchased vehicles are correctly added to our systems and advertised properly.

Key responsibilities

Your main duties will include:

Selecting suitable used vehicles to buy for stock
Working out deductions for damage, preparation costs, mileage, specification and market conditions
Applying bids through online trade buying platforms
Checking “attention grabbers” and vehicle advert highlights
Advertising vehicles on Auto Trader
Sorting any issues or errors with Auto Trader adverts
Adding purchased vehicles to the DMS system
Adding purchase prices and stock details to the DMS
Monitoring vehicle opportunities during evening and weekend buying windows
Working closely with the sales and management team to ensure the right stock is purchased

Hours of work

The role is based on 32.5 hours per week.

Proposed hours:

Monday: 9:30am – 4:30pm and 7:00pm – 7:30pm
Tuesday: Day off
Wednesday: 9:30am – 4:30pm and 7:00pm – 7:30pm
Thursday: 9:30am – 4:30pm and 7:00pm – 7:30pm
Friday: 9:30am – 4:30pm
Saturday: Flexible 2.5 hours, including checking stock opportunities between Friday 7:00pm and Saturday 12:00pm
Sunday: Flexible 2.5 hours, including checking stock opportunities between Saturday 7:00pm and Sunday 12:00pm

There is a 30-minute dinner break on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Some weekend work and short evening buying sessions are required due to the nature of online vehicle buying. Once fully trained, there may be the option to work from home at weekends and possibly on some weekdays.

Pay

Basic hourly rate: £18 per hour
Annual basic salary: £30,420
OTE once fully trained: Up to £45,000

A bonus scheme will be introduced once the employee is fully trained and able to buy vehicles without supervision. The bonus will be based on chassis profit per unit, with final details to be confirmed.

What we’re looking for

The ideal candidate will be:

Interested in cars and the used vehicle market
Confident using computers and online systems
Good with numbers and able to calculate deductions accurately
Detail-focused and organised
Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently
Comfortable making decisions once trained
Able to work some evenings and weekends
Keen to learn how to buy profitable used car stock

Experience preferred

Experience in any of the following would be useful but is not essential:

Used car buying
Motor trade sales
Vehicle appraisals or valuations
Stock control
Auto Trader advertising
Dealer Management Systems
Online trade buying platforms such as 1link or similar
