Job Purpose
To dispense medicines and to assist in the day-to-day running of the Practice Dispensary
Key Relationships
GPs, management team, administration team, reception, patients, external organisations.
It is the intention that this employment will become part of the Pershore and Upton Primary Care network once fully established. The primary base for your role is the surgery sited at Pershore Medical Practice and as part of your role within the Pershore and Upton Primacy Care Network you may be asked to attend other locations (Abbottswood Medical Centre or Upton Surgery) according to the needs of the business/PCN and for training.
Under our PCN contract we take on Extended Hours and Improved Access for patients and there may be requirements for you to work early mornings, evening and or weekends. This will be taken into consideration with your contracted hours and only after consultation with you.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Dispensing Duties
- To process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by the practice doctors and the nurse prescribers
- To issue repeat prescriptions safely and in a timely manner.
- To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor
- Dispense and record private prescriptions
- Receive, record and dispense repeat medication requests including entering and extracting information from the computer
- To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient.
- To promptly forward all invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the Dispensary Manager.
- To undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service
- Ensure the dispensary area remains clean and tidy at all times
2. Other Duties
- The dispenser must be prepared to undertake any necessary training to ensure that he/she has the necessary skills and competence required.
