The Fair Work Agency (FWA) launched in April 2026 with a clear and ambitious mission: to make work fairer for everyone. We bring together key powers to protect workers, support responsible businesses, and take decisive action against exploitation. Today, we regulate employment agencies, license gangmasters in the agricultural and horticultural sectors, tackle serious labour abuse and modern slavery, and enable enforcement of the National Minimum Wage.

But this is just the start.

With new powers under the Employment Rights Act 2025, we are expanding our role even further. We are building the capability to ensure workers receive what they are entitled to, from holiday pay to statutory sick pay, and strengthening the system so that rights are not just set out in law, but actively upheld in practice.

Job description

This is a unique and high-impact opportunity to join the Fair Work Agency at a formative stage as Chief Of Staff to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). You will act as the principal advisor and strategic partner to the CEO, providing high-level support to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the CEOs office and the wider organisation. This will look different on any given day so your ability to be curious, resilient and passionate about making a difference will be essential.

Key responsibilities:

Manage the CEOs office, providing key support to the CEO so that they can use their time as effectively as possible. This includes being curious and identifying more effective ways of working, using your initiative to solve complex problems and looking for opportunities that help the CEO and the organisation be most effective including championing opportunities such as AI.
Ensure that the practicalities of the CEOs office run well and that research/ horizon scanning is used to inform thinking. Be a sounding board.
Help the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to work together as effectively as possible and deliver governance, oversight and direction to the organisation together.
Lead on strategic aspects of people management administration including appraisal dates and preparation and systems compliance.
Ensure good forward planning, support effective meetings and work with Directors to solve problems and deliver work in line with the CEOs priorities.
Support the CEO by managing relationships with the Board and working closely with the Secretariat to ensure a smooth and joined up approach between the CEO, Chair, Board and Committees.
Plan and consider partners and stakeholder engagement for the CEO and ensure systems are used effectively to maximise how partners / stakeholders can be contacted and engaged at appropriate times and that senior relationships are managed, developed and enhanced. This includes relationships with our sponsoring department and other departments / governments we work with across the three nations we serve. Support briefings and speech preparation to enable good outcomes. Attend and lead meetings as required.
Consider how the CEO can be most effective internally through authentic colleague engagement and enable this. Support briefings and speech preparation to enable good outcomes. Be the voice of the CEOs office helping to support and join-up across teams, individuals providing briefing and also help carry staff voices to the CEO to shape thinking and help us be a truly great place to work for everyone.
Consider how the CEO can help the organisations reach and delivery of our mission through media, social media and broader engagement. Support briefings and preparation to enable good outcomes, working with other teams and leads as necessary.
Manage escalated and high level correspondence, FOIs, EIRs, complaints to ensure the CEO sees what is appropriate and receives good quality drafts and supporting information so that the process is as effective and efficient as possible. Consider how intelligence, learning and trends can be used for improvement and ensure commitments made are delivered.
Deliver and / or contribute to specific projects across the organisation as agreed. This includes overseeing the implementation of key projects and initiatives, coordinating resources, tracking milestones, and managing risks to ensure successful outcomes.
Lead and develop a high-performing team, providing direction, support, and mentorship to staff members including the Executive Assistants to Directors. Work closely and effectively with other Heads and colleagues across the organisation to support a One FWA approach and encourage a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.

Ensure that the FWA's statutory responsibilities are effectively discharged
