About the Role:

London is one of the world’s most diverse food markets, and at Joy Food Algeria UK Ltd, we are committed to supplying products that meet high standards of safety, quality, and consistency. We import and distribute Mediterranean and North African food products to retailers, wholesalers, and hospitality businesses across the United Kingdom.

We are looking for an experienced Food Safety and Quality Manager who can take ownership of our food safety systems and quality assurance standards. You will ensure that our products, suppliers, storage processes, and distribution activities comply with UK food legislation and recognised industry standards.

You will work closely with suppliers, warehouse teams, logistics partners, customers, and senior management to maintain a strong food safety culture throughout the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Safety Management:

Maintain and continuously improve the company’s food safety and quality management systems. Ensure that procedures are practical, documented, and consistently followed.

Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure compliance with UK food safety legislation, product labelling requirements, allergen regulations, traceability standards, and applicable import requirements.

Supplier Approval:

Assess and approve new suppliers. Review technical documentation, product specifications, certificates, audit reports, allergen information, and food safety records.

Quality Assurance:

Monitor product quality from supplier approval through storage and distribution. Investigate product defects, specification failures, and customer quality concerns.

Audits and Inspections:

Plan and conduct internal audits, supplier assessments, warehouse inspections, and hygiene checks. Support external audits and regulatory inspections when required.

HACCP Management:

Maintain and review HACCP plans, risk assessments, prerequisite programmes, and corrective action procedures.

Traceability and Recall:

Manage product traceability exercises, withdrawal procedures, and recall processes. Ensure that records are accurate and products can be traced efficiently.

Complaint Investigation:

Investigate customer complaints, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.

Training and Food Safety Culture:

Deliver training on food hygiene, allergens, handling procedures, traceability, and quality standards. Promote a strong food safety culture across the organisation.

Stakeholder Management:

Provide clear technical guidance to suppliers, customers, warehouse teams, logistics partners, and internal management. Communicate compliance risks and recommended actions in a practical and professional manner.

What We Are Looking For:

Experience:

At least 5 years of experience in food safety, quality assurance, technical compliance, food manufacturing, importation, wholesale, or distribution.

Qualifications:

A degree or recognised professional qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Nutrition, Quality Management, or a related field is preferred.

Technical Knowledge:

Strong knowledge of HACCP, food hygiene, allergen management, traceability, supplier approval, product specifications, corrective actions, and UK food safety regulations.

Audit Experience:

Experience conducting internal audits, supplier audits, warehouse inspections, or supporting third party certification audits.

Certifications:

HACCP Level 3 or Level 4 and Food Safety Level 3 or Level 4 qualifications are highly desirable. Lead Auditor or BRCGS training would be an advantage.

Communication Skills:

Strong written and verbal English communication skills. You must be able to explain technical requirements clearly to both operational and nontechnical stakeholders.

Mindset:

You are organised, detail focused, practical, and confident making decisions. You understand when immediate corrective action is required and when a longer term improvement plan is more appropriate.

Pay: £51,103.00-£53,940.00 per year
