About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Housing Standards Officer to join our friendly Housing Standards Team working 37 hours per week.

The role of a Housing Standards Officer is to work within a team to ensure the delivery of the Council’s statutory responsibilities for improving conditions and standards of management of private sector housing for residents of Maidstone, protecting their health, safety and well-being.

This role will deal with the full range of matters affecting housing standards, concentrating on undertake investigations and inspections of dwellings and assist the team in their statutory responsibilities in relation to houses in multiple occupation; licensing dwellings & HMO’s; preparation and service of relevant statutory notices. The postholder will also assist team on the delivery of the Disabled Facilities Grant programme and other discretionary schemes to ensure those most in need of assistance through home improvements, get the help they need.

This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis. This role offers the benefit of hybrid working, combining office-based working with home working, according to business needs. You will also be required to conduct property visits around the borough as needed.

About You:

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, highly motivated team player, with excellent communication skills. We would expect you to have relevant experience dealing with housing conditions, but we will offer relevant training and guidance for you to undertake the role.

You should be a strong team player with relevant experience who embraces change and is able to work flexibility in order to meet the needs of the service.

You will also require a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle to enable you to travel around the borough to attend properties as needed.

Selection Process:

Following the submission of your application form, it will be reviewed by the recruiting manager. Those that are successful in securing an interview can expect job specific interview assessment, followed by an interview.

The Council considers that the successful applicant will have access to the Government’s secure network and will need to have a Baseline Personnel Security Standard check completed. In addition to the normal pre-employment checks this requires a criminal record check for unspent convictions and verification of employment history for the preceding 3 years. Where the 3 years of employment history cannot be verified through the most recent employment reference, you will need to provide a copy of your HMRC PAYE record for the 3-year period and will need to explain the reasons for any gaps in employment.
