Job Purpose
To supervise and coordinate wastewater operational activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company procedures, client requirements, and industry regulations. The Wastewater Supervisor is responsible for leading field teams, maintaining high standards of quality and safety, and ensuring the successful delivery of wastewater maintenance, repair, and construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
· Supervise and coordinate wastewater operational teams to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project programmes
· Allocate labour, plant, equipment, and materials to maximise operational productivity
· Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with company procedures, client specifications, and statutory requirements
· Conduct regular site inspections and quality checks to ensure work meets required standards
· Ensure all operatives work in accordance with approved Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and Safe Systems of Work
· Conduct site briefings, toolbox talks, and daily task planning with operational teams.
· Consult with Project Managers, Engineers, planners, clients, and local authorities to coordinate work and resolve operational issues
· Ensure all site records, inspections, permits, and operational documentation are completed accurately and submitted on time
· Monitor project progress, identify delays or risks, and implement corrective actions where necessary
· Investigate incidents, near misses, defects, and customer complaints, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented
· Support the training, mentoring, and development of operatives and new employees.
· Monitor productivity and performance against agreed KPIs and operational targets.
· Ensure company vehicles, plant, tools, and equipment are used safely, maintained correctly, and defects reported promptly
· Promote excellent customer service and maintain positive working relationships with clients, customers, contractors, and members of the public
Health and Safety
· Take personal responsibility for your own health, safety, and wellbeing, as well as the safety of colleagues, contractors, and members of the public
· Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation, industry regulations, company policies, and approved safe systems of work
· Conduct a Point of Work Risk Assessment before starting any task to ensure that risks are identified, understood, and appropriately controlled
· Report hazards, follow all control measures, use equipment safely, and complete all mandatory training
· Challenge unsafe behaviours, support a positive safety culture, and ensure that your actions contribute to a safe, professional, and legally compliant working environment at all times
Qualifications and Experience
· Proven experience supervising wastewater, drainage, utilities, or civil engineering operations
· Strong understanding of wastewater networks, sewer maintenance, drainage systems, and associated infrastructure
· Experience managing field-based operational teams
· Good knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe working practices within the utilities sector
· Strong leadership, communication, and people management skills
· Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities
· Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, utility plans, and project specifications
· Competent in Microsoft Office and operational management systems.
· Full UK driving licence
· NRSWA Supervisor Accreditation
· SSSTS or SMSTS qualification
· Confined Space (Medium/High Risk) certification
· Experience working on wastewater frameworks for UK water utility companies
· First Aid at Work qualification
· CPCS or NPORS certification for relevant plant
· IOSH Managing Safely qualification (preferred)
· Experience managing subcontractors and multiple work crews
· Commitment to continuous improvement and maintaining high standards of operational performance
Pay: £40,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
