Accounts Assistant
We are a family-run, fast-growing engineering business looking for an organised, switched-on Accounts Assistant to join our friendly team.
This is not a "sit quietly in the corner and process invoices" kind of role. We are looking for someone who enjoys being at the centre of a busy business, likes getting stuck in, and takes real pride in keeping the numbers, systems, jobs, and details under control.
We work in a fast-moving engineering environment where accuracy matters, communication matters, and small details can make a big difference. You will be joining a close-knit team where your work will be noticed, valued, and genuinely important to the smooth running of the business.
Experience within the HVAC industry would be highly advantageous, along with working knowledge of Xero and Joblogic.
About the role
As our Accounts Assistant, you will support the day-to-day finance and administration function of the business, helping to keep our accounts accurate, our systems up to date, and our engineers and office team well supported.
You will be working closely with the management team and will play an important part in making sure jobs, invoices, supplier payments, customer accounts, and project information are handled efficiently and accurately.
This role also offers a genuine development opportunity for the right person. As you grow into the role, there will be the chance to become more involved in management accounts, project reporting, and the cost management of larger engineering projects. This would suit someone who is keen to learn, develop their commercial understanding, and build a broader finance skill set within a practical, fast-growing business.
We are looking for someone who wants to grow with our business - someone who is excited by the opportunity to become a valued long-term member of the team, develop their role over time, and contribute to the continued success of the company.
What you will be doing
- Processing purchase invoices and matching them to supplier statements.
- Raising sales invoices and ensuring job information is accurate before billing.
- Reconciling bank transactions and assisting with month-end processes.
- Updating and maintaining records on Xero and Joblogic.
- Supporting credit control and following up outstanding customer payments.
- Assisting with supplier queries, customer account queries, and general finance administration.
- Keeping job costing, purchase orders, and invoice records organised and up to date.
- Supporting project cost tracking and helping ensure larger jobs are monitored accurately.
- Assisting with management account preparation as your experience develops.
- Working closely with the wider office and engineering teams to ensure information is captured correctly.
- Spotting when something does not look right and having the confidence to question it.
- Providing general administrative support where needed.
About you
We are not looking for someone who just wants "any accounts job". We are looking for someone who wants to be part of a growing business, understand how it works, and help make it better.
You will be naturally organised, confident with numbers, and comfortable taking ownership of your workload. You will need to be accurate, dependable, and able to work well in a busy environment where priorities can change.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in an accounts or finance administration role.
- Experience within the HVAC, building services, engineering, or facilities management sector.
- Working knowledge of Xero.
- Experience using Joblogic or similar job management software.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A proactive, can-do attitude and willingness to support the wider team.
- An interest in developing skills in management accounts, project costing, and cost control.
- A desire to grow with the business and develop as the company continues to expand.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
What we offer
- A welcoming, supportive working environment within a family-run business.
- The opportunity to become a valued part of a fast-growing engineering company.
- A varied role where your contribution will genuinely make a difference.
- A clear opportunity to develop into management accounts and project cost management.
- Exposure to larger engineering projects and the commercial side of the business.
The chance to grow with the business and shape your role as the company develops.
- Support from an experienced team who understand the industry.
- Competitive salary, depending on experience.
