Learning Disability Specialist worker

15hrs/week
£12.96/hr: £ 10,110.84 pro rata (Spinal Point 2)
Start date: a.s.a.p (with DBS clearance)
Location: NE24 1LL

Learning Disability Specialist Worker

Journey’s Learning Disability Specialist Workers plan and deliver employment and independent living skills training sessions for groups of 8-10 adults with intellectual (learning) disability. Sessions are based both on site and in community settings.

This role is suitable for applicants with backgrounds in teaching, community education, IAG (applicants with disabilities), HM Forces and the wider Voluntary & Community Sector (project delivery).

We are not looking for applications from those who have worked in domiciliary or residential care, supported living, health or as Personal Assistants. This is because Journey Enterprises does not provide personal care services but training services.

We have four Day Centres: Acomb and Blyth (Northumberland), Coundon (County Durham) and Newcastle upon Tyne. Our Staff team consists of employees, volunteers and both postgraduate and undergraduate students on practice-based placements. The Organisation provides opportunity for rapid career progression based on training, performance and funding for our specialist programmes.

NVQ 2 or 3 Health & Social Care or willingness to work towards - essential
Current UK driving licence and access to suitable transportation for the role (or Access to Work within work transport package) - essential
Experience or knowledge of working with vulnerable adults - desirable
Good knowledge of local services and facilities which could benefit people with learning disability - desirable
Confident IT skills i.e. Windows, Microsoft 365 (email, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel, Yammer, Teams) and Adobe, web Chat Forums, Video Conference Calling (FaceTime, Zoom and MS Teams), social media (Facebook and Instagram) or willingness to train in these packages - desirable
Disability-specialist training e.g. positive behaviour support, person-centred practice, autism awareness, Makaton, BSL - desirable
D1 minibus licence & MiDAS or willingness to work towards - desirable
