Full job description

Job Title: Activities Coordinator

Location: Residential Care Home

Reports To: Senior Carer

Hours: Part-time

Job Purpose

To plan, organise and deliver a varied programme of meaningful activities that promote the physical, emotional, social, and mental wellbeing of residents. The Activities Coordinator will encourage participation, support residents to maintain independence, and create opportunities for enjoyment, social interaction, and engagement while respecting each individual's preferences, abilities, culture, and life history.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver a diverse programme of daily, weekly, and seasonal activities suitable for residents with varying abilities, including those living with dementia.
Develop person-centred activity plans based on residents' interests, hobbies, backgrounds, and individual needs.
Encourage residents to participate while respecting their choices and independence.
Organise individual and group activities, including:
Arts and crafts
Music and singing
Exercise and mobility sessions
Games and quizzes
Gardening
Baking and cooking
Reminiscence sessions
Film afternoons
Religious and cultural celebrations
Community visits and outings
Coordinate visits from entertainers, volunteers, schools, community groups, and local organisations.
Support residents to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions.
Work closely with care staff to ensure activities are accessible and inclusive.
Encourage family involvement in activities and events.
Maintain activity records and evaluate participation and outcomes.
Manage the activities budget and purchase resources as authorised.
Ensure activity equipment is safe, clean, and suitable for use.
Contribute to care planning by providing feedback on residents' engagement and wellbeing.
Assist in creating a welcoming and stimulating environment throughout the home.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

Follow all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Carry out risk assessments for activities and outings.
Ensure residents are supervised appropriately during activities.
Maintain infection prevention and control standards.
Report accidents, incidents, hazards, or safeguarding concerns promptly.
Use equipment safely and ensure it is fit for purpose.

Person SpecificationEssential

Experience working with older people or vulnerable adults preferable.
Enthusiastic, caring, and compassionate approach.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Creative and able to develop engaging activity programmes.
Good organisational and time management skills.
Ability to motivate and encourage participation.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Good written and IT skills for maintaining records.

Desirable

Previous experience as an Activities Coordinator in a care setting.
Qualification in Health and Social Care, Activities Provision, or Recreation.
Knowledge of person-centred care.

Patience and understanding.
Ability to adapt activities for different physical and cognitive abilities.
Good planning and organisational skills.

Safeguarding

The postholder is responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults. They must report any concerns immediately in accordance with the home's safeguarding policies and procedures. An Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references are required.

Working Conditions

Regular movement throughout the home.
Occasional lifting and moving of activity equipment.
Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and during special events where required.
Accompanying residents on outings and community activities.
Working closely with residents who have varying physical and cognitive needs.

QualificationsEssential

Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
Willingness to complete mandatory training.

Achieve high levels of resident participation and satisfaction.
Ensure activities are person-centred and tailored to individual preferences.
