Build the Infrastructure Powering the UK’s Future

At Heffernan Utilities, we deliver high-quality utility and infrastructure solutions across Gas, Water, Electric, Mechanical & Electrical (M&E), and EV charging projects throughout the UK. Known for reliability, innovation, and technical excellence, we work closely with clients to create sustainable infrastructure that supports communities and businesses nationwide.

We are now looking for an experienced Construction Manager to join our growing team in Halifax and play a key role in delivering complex utility and M&E construction projects safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

The Role

As Construction Manager, you will take ownership of site operations from planning through to delivery, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in line with client expectations.

You’ll lead site teams and subcontractors, coordinate resources, oversee health & safety compliance, and maintain strong communication with clients and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day construction activities across multiple utility and M&E projects
Lead and supervise site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers
Ensure all works are delivered safely and in compliance with industry regulations and company procedures
Monitor project progress, budgets, timelines, and resource allocation
Conduct site inspections and maintain high quality standards throughout delivery
Identify and resolve operational challenges quickly and effectively
Work collaboratively with clients, engineers, and senior management
Produce and maintain project reports, documentation, and site records
Drive a positive safety culture across all projects

What We’re Looking For

Proven experience in a Construction Manager or similar leadership role
Strong background in Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) construction – essential
Experience delivering utility infrastructure projects is highly desirable
Excellent leadership and team management skills
Strong understanding of construction health & safety legislation and best practice
Demonstrated experience managing budgets, schedules, and project controls
Ability to make decisions under pressure and solve problems effectively
Strong communication and organisational skills
Proficient in coordinating multiple stakeholders and project priorities
Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related discipline preferred
