Job description

We are seeking an experienced, dedicated & enthusiastic cafe assistant to join our amazing team. We are a well established Cafe, based at the family owned Kershaw's Garden Centre in Brighouse. We pride ourselves on providing excellent food and customer service.

Please note this is a part time role averaging 16-20 hours per week and includes both weekday and weekend work, with the option to pick up additional shifts as available. Experience of cooking with sole responsibility is essential.

The successful candidate will be confident, self-motivated and proactive with previous experience gained within a similar catering environment. It is essential to possess a real passion for creating good food to a high standard with quality-sourced ingredients, whilst remaining commercially focused, and ensuring excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

To prepare, cook and produce a high level of consistency (including presentation, quality and portion control)
Look for ways to minimise waste by using the appropriate production methods and controls
Ensure that all products are date checked, temperature checks are performed to plan, stock is rotated and the kitchen delivers against its Retail and EHO/Food Hygiene Standards
Maintaining the kitchen, floors, preparation areas, equipment, utensils, food preparation equipment to the cleaning and hygiene standards
Sorting, storing and distributing ingredients and deliveries
Washing, peeling, chopping, cutting and cooking foodstuffs to the desired menu standards.
Washing utensils and dishes and making sure they are stored safely and appropriately.
Efficiently and safely use and maintain all kitchen equipment such as mixers, pot wash machinery.

Skills needed:

Experience of working in a busy kitchen

Excellent communication skills and able to work as part of a team

Creative at making dishes but also able to work to specs

Knowledge of HACCP

Able to manage multiple orders

Professionalism and reliability

Remain calm under pressure

Good time management

Level 2 basic food hygiene (refresher training can be given if necessary)
