Full job description

The Company
Founded in 1969, IAE is the UK’s largest manufacturer of agricultural livestock handling and feeding equipment, as well as industrial security fencing. As a family-owned business with approximately 400+ employees, IAE prides itself on quality and innovation in manufacturing.

The Role

IAE is seeking an experienced and hands-on Assembly Manager to lead our Assembly and Stores operations at our state-of-the-art Stoke-on-Trent facility. This individual will be responsible for driving operational performance, ensuring efficient workflow across assembly lines and material handling, and developing high-performing teams.

Managing a team of approximately 50 operatives and team leaders working across a rotating days and noons shift pattern, the Assembly Manager will work a core management schedule of 08:00 – 16:30 while ensuring operational support across shifts.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee daily assembly and stores operations to ensure efficient workflow, on-time delivery, and high-quality output.
Drive assembly line performance through effective labour planning, resource allocation, and workflow optimisation.
Monitor and report on key operational metrics including KPIs, output, quality, downtime, efficiency, and labour utilisation.
Lead daily performance reviews using SQDCP boards (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People) to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
Coordinate closely with internal Supply Chain, Stores, Production Planning, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure material availability and maximise throughput.
Manage inventory flow, stock accuracy, and material presentation to support uninterrupted assembly operations.
Troubleshoot and resolve production and assembly issues to minimise downtime and maintain operational continuity.
Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately 50 employees across rotating shifts, building capability and succession within the department.
Ensure compliance with company policies, health & safety standards, and quality systems across all assembly and stores activities.
Identify and implement process improvements to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance productivity.
Support new product introduction and process changes in collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering.
Prepare and present departmental performance reports to senior leadership.

The Candidate

We are looking for an experienced manufacturing leader with a strong background in assembly operations, material flow, and team leadership.

Skills and Experience

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an Assembly Manager, Production Manager, or Manufacturing leadership role, ideally within steel fabrication, assembly, or engineered products.
Proven experience managing assembly operations, stores/material flow, and labour planning in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Experience managing teams of 30–60 employees across multiple shifts.
Strong understanding of operational KPIs including output, efficiency, quality, downtime, and OEE.
Practical experience using SQDCP boards or similar visual management systems.
Experience working with ERP/MRP systems, production planning, and inventory control.
Strong technical aptitude with the ability to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
Experience within ISO9001-accredited manufacturing environments.
Excellent leadership, coaching, and communication skills with the ability to engage teams at all levels.
Experience supporting continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and process optimisation.

Hours: Working 39 hours, Monday – Thursday 08:00 – 16:30, Friday 08:00 – 15:30.
