Activity Coordinator – Mental Health & Physical Activity Community Support Service
Location: West Northamptonshire
We are looking for a compassionate, motivated, and community-focused Activity Coordinator to support the delivery of a Mental Health and Physical Activity Community Support Service across West Northamptonshire.
The service supports adults aged 18+ experiencing mental health challenges, social isolation, low confidence, and barriers to physical activity. Our aim is to improve wellbeing through inclusive community-based activities, peer support, and social connection.
You will help organise and coordinate wellbeing activities that encourage participation, recovery, confidence-building, and healthier lifestyles.
Main Responsibilities
- Coordinate and support community wellbeing and physical activity sessions
- Organise activities such as wellbeing walks, gentle exercise groups, peer support sessions, gardening projects, and social wellbeing activities
- Engage adults experiencing mental health challenges in a supportive and non-judgemental way
- Build positive relationships with participants, volunteers, and local community partners
- Support participants to access local services and community opportunities
- Help reduce social isolation and encourage community involvement
- Work collaboratively with GP practices, social prescribers, voluntary organisations, and local partners
- Promote activities within local communities across West Northamptonshire
- Maintain attendance records and support outcome monitoring
- Support volunteer and peer mentor involvement within the programme
- Ensure activities are inclusive, accessible, and culturally sensitive
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and confidentiality procedures

- Experienced in wellbeing, community support, mental health, physical activity, or voluntary sector work
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience supporting vulnerable adults or community groups
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of mental health challenges and recovery-focused approaches
- Experience organising activities, groups, or events
- Basic IT and record-keeping skills
- Knowledge of safeguarding practices
Desirable
- Experience in community mental health or social prescribing services
- Understanding of health inequalities and inclusion
- Experience working with volunteers or peer support programmes
- Level 2/3 qualification in health, wellbeing, social care, community work, or physical activity
- First Aid or Mental Health Awareness training
