About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Fleet Manager to take ownership of a large and diverse council fleet, ensuring essential frontline services run safely, efficiently, and reliably every day. This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll shape how fleet services are delivered across the Council - with the opportunity to drive innovation, improve performance, and make a tangible difference to the lives of our residents.

As Fleet Manager, you will:

Lead the strategic and operational management of a fleet of approximately 295 vehicles and plant.
Act as the Council’s O Licence holder, ensuring full compliance and safe vehicle operation.
Manage a significant capital programme.
Oversee fleet procurement, replacement programmes, maintenance, repairs and contracts.
Drive performance through data, telematics and continuous improvement.
Build strong relationships across services to maximise fleet utilisation and efficiency.
Lead and develop your team, creating a high-performing, customer-focused culture.

You’ll play a key role in shaping how the Council delivers services - ensuring our fleet is fit for the future.

About you

We’re seeking a driven and knowledgeable professional with:

A Transport Manager CPC and experience as an O Licence holder
Proven experience managing large, complex fleet operations
Strong background in fleet procurement, maintenance contracts and supplier management
Experience overseeing significant budgets and delivering value for money
A track record of leading service improvement, change and transformation
Excellent stakeholder management and the ability to influence across an organisation
Strong understanding of fleet compliance, safety, and regulatory requirements
