Overview

Bank House is a well-loved restaurant in the heart of Hathersage, known for great food, warm hospitality, and relaxed, memorable guest experiences. We’re proudly part of The Northern Collective — an independent hospitality, retail, and leisure group operating across the Peak District and South Sheffield.

Our group spans restaurants, bakeries, and retail-led food concepts, with a strong focus on quality, consistency, and developing great people.

We’re now looking for a confident, driven, and detail-focused Sous Chef to join our kitchen team and help deliver consistently high-quality food in a fast-paced, professional environment — with a strong commitment to compliance, safety, and operational standards.

About the Role

As Sous Chef, you’ll play a key leadership role within the kitchen, working closely with the Head Chef to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, exceptional food quality, and full compliance with all company and legal requirements.

You will be a key person responsible for maintaining high standards across food safety, hygiene, health & safety, and operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting the Head Chef in the daily running of the kitchen
Leading kitchen operations during service and in the Head Chef’s absence
Ensuring full compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations
Maintaining accurate records, checks, and due diligence systems
Preparing, cooking, and presenting dishes to a consistently high standard
Supervising, mentoring, and developing junior chefs
Maintaining company policies and procedures
Assisting with menu development
Managing stock, ordering, rotation, and reducing waste
Ensuring cleanliness, organisation, and safety across all kitchen areas at all times

About You

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about food and takes real pride in running a safe, compliant, and well-organised kitchen.

You will ideally have:

Previous experience as a Sous Chef, or a strong Chef de Partie ready to step up
Excellent knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and H&S standards
A proactive approach to compliance and risk management
Strong leadership and organisational skills
High attention to detail and consistency
A positive, team-focused attitude
The ability to remain calm and focused under pressure
