IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING

This role requires proven, hands-on experience with commercial grounds maintenance equipment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Honiley Hall is a private estate in Warwickshire. We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Gardener / Groundsman to join us on a permanent basis, working approximately three days per week, with occasional Sundays as required.

The estate now operates a fleet of five autonomous robotic mowers, which handle the primary grass cutting across the grounds. As a result, this role is weighted towards strimming, edging, grounds clearance, and general estate maintenance rather than ride-on mowing — though candidates with specialist grass cutting skills will be particularly welcomed, and the role involves some grass cutting alongside the robot fleet.

This position would suit:

— An experienced groundsperson or gardener moving towards retirement who wishes to continue in a role they enjoy, on reduced hours.

— Someone seeking to supplement existing employment with a regular, reliable part-time commitment.

— A candidate wishing to transition gradually into a new working pattern or ease into a change of direction.

For the right person — particularly one with a broader range of skills to offer — there is the potential for this role to develop into a full-time position in time.

PACKAGE

Salary: £13.22 per hour during the 6-month probationary period, rising to £13.94 per hour on successful completion (pro-rated from full-time equivalent of £27,500 / £29,000 per annum)

Working Hours: Approximately three days per week, with flexibility upward when required. Occasional Sundays included.

Working Pattern: Weekdays, with occasional Sundays as required. Saturdays are not part of this role.

Holiday: 28 days per annum pro-rata (inclusive of Bank Holidays)

Pension: Pension scheme available

Probation: 6 months

MAIN DUTIES — GROUNDS AND GARDENS

Maintain the overall grounds, lawns, driveways, and pathways to a high standard, including:

Grass strimming and edging throughout the estate
Keeping all areas clear of leaf falls, bracken, litter, weeds, grass cuttings, moss, and all other debris
General lawn care treatments
Some grass cutting using professional ride-on equipment
Shrubbery maintenance as needed

ROBOT FLEET MAINTENANCE

The estate operates five autonomous robotic mowers. The post holder will be responsible for cleaning the fleet on a fortnightly basis, ensuring the machines are kept in good working order between scheduled servicing.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

The post holder will be expected to operate and maintain professional standard grounds equipment, including:

Jacobson T-Plex Triple Deck Mower (fine lawns)
Toro CT2240 Commercial Triple Deck Ride-on Mower (pasture and large areas)
Cub Cadet Ride-on Mower
Ransomes Pedestrian Mower
Sisis Pedestrian Scarifier
Various other mowers
Professional strimming and edging equipment

The post holder is also expected to maintain equipment where they have the requisite skills, clean down all equipment at the end of each day or week, and refuel equipment ready for next use.

PROPERTY AND ESTATE DUTIES

Clearing of all drains and guttering around the property
Clearing of cobwebs around the property (main gates, side gate, etc.)
Wiping down of external paintwork on doors and door frames, when required
Changing light bulbs
Cleaning and laying the fire during the winter months, as and when required
Maintaining sufficient levels of fuel (wood, coal, etc.)
Tackling various rudimentary handyman tasks as required
Removal of dust bins and rubbish to the collection point and return thereof on appointed days

ANIMAL CARE

The care of household pets is part of the role. This currently includes:

Feeding and watering the Airedale Terriers
Letting the dogs out and walking as required
Cleaning their kennels

Please Note: Candidates with an aversion to dogs need not apply.

HOUSEHOLD AND GENERAL DUTIES

Assisting with matters in the household, where required
Running errands to the local villages
Collecting people from railway stations, etc.
Cleaning vehicles, both inside and out, when requested
All other usual tasks and errands that are in common with the position

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Proven, hands-on experience operating commercial grounds maintenance equipment — this is an absolute requirement
Highly competent in strimming, edging, and grounds clearance to a professional standard
Specialist grass cutting skills (particularly welcome, though not essential given the robot fleet)
Content to work independently with minimal supervision
High degree of attention to detail and pride in their work
Strong, reliable work ethic
Comfortable around dogs and willing to assist with their care
Willing to undertake a range of duties beyond core grounds work where reasonably required
Full, clean driving licence (desirable)
