About Lloyd’s Lounge

Lloyd’s Lounge is a busy, independent restaurant in the heart of Exeter, serving food throughout the day and into the evening.

Our kitchen operates across breakfast and lunch service, alongside our popular Small Plates menu on Friday and Saturday evenings.

We’re looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join our kitchen team and work closely with our Head Chef, helping maintain high standards and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen.

A Great Work-Life Balance

One of the biggest benefits of this position is the working pattern.

You will only be required to work two evenings per week – Friday and Saturday.

Unlike many full-time Sous Chef positions, the majority of your working week will be during the daytime, covering our busy breakfast and lunch services.

Your only evening shifts will be Friday and Saturday, working our Small Plates evening menu.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced chef looking for a senior kitchen position without having to commit to five or six late nights every week.

The Role

As Sous Chef, you will:

Support the Head Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen
Work across our breakfast, lunch and Small Plates menus
Lead and motivate the kitchen team during busy services
Ensure dishes are consistently prepared and presented to a high standard
Help with prep, service and kitchen organisation
Assist with stock control, ordering and reducing wastage
Maintain excellent food hygiene and health & safety standards
Help train and develop junior members of the kitchen team
Take responsibility for the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence
Contribute ideas towards menus, specials and seasonal dishes

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is:

Experienced in a Sous Chef or strong Chef de Partie role
Confident working across breakfast, lunch and evening services
Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced kitchen
Reliable, organised and able to remain calm under pressure
Passionate about producing consistently good food
A strong team player with a positive attitude
Comfortable taking responsibility and leading a service
Knowledgeable about food safety, allergens and kitchen procedures

Most importantly, we want someone who takes pride in what they do and wants to become an important part of our kitchen team.
