The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and motivated AD (Anaerobic Digestion) Site Manager to join our team.

The Site Manager holds full operational responsibility for the site, overseeing all activities “from the front gate” to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient plant performance. This role combines leadership, operational control, and hands-on capability, requiring a strong understanding of anaerobic digestion (AD) plant operations and the flexibility to step into operator duties when required

Duties

Your tasks will include, but not limited to the following:

Operational Management

Lead the day-to-day operations of the AD plant, ensuring optimal performance and output.
Plan and coordinate daily site activities, including feedstock planning, operator task allocation, and site movements.
Conduct daily team briefings to set operational priorities and expectations.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping and productivity across the site.
Act as an operator when required, including feeding the AD hopper and supporting plant processes.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

Monitor plant performance, including SCADA systems, engine performance, and associated equipment (e.g., Pentair systems).
Complete daily operational reports and lead weekly performance calls.
Record and analyse site meter readings, identifying trends and implementing corrective actions where necessary.
Ensure completion of daily feed sheets, check sheets, and maintenance logs.
Conduct and monitor AD process checks, including DM% and FOS/TAC analysis.

Compliance & Stakeholder Management

Manage interactions with external bodies such as National Grid, Ofgem, and metering providers to ensure compliance.
Work closely with the Compliance Manager on environmental matters, including liaison with regulatory authorities (e.g., EA).
Collaborate with the Technical Manager on feedstock, additives, and regulatory requirements.
Ensure adherence to all operational, environmental, and regulatory standards.

Financial & Commercial Control

Support budget setting and maintain control of site-level costs in collaboration with the Area Manager.
Raise purchase orders, track invoices, and ensure sign-off processes follow controlled and auditable procedures.
Maintain awareness of site financial performance and contribute to cost-effective decision-making.

Maintenance & Asset Management

Coordinate plant maintenance and servicing activities with the Maintenance Manager.
Ensure all plant and site maintenance checks are completed in line with procedures.
Develop and implement maintenance procedures where gaps exist.
Manage the site spares inventory, ensuring accurate records and availability of critical components.
Liaise with third-party contractors for repairs, servicing, and upgrades.

Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)

Lead and promote a strong HSE culture across the site.
Ensure compliance with all HSE policies and procedures.
Conduct incident investigations, near-miss reporting, and corrective actions.
Support site controls related to odour, litter, and vermin management.

Logistics & Site Coordination

Oversee weighbridge operations, including supporting visitors and monitoring records.
Coordinate material movements to maintain optimal feedstock levels.
Liaise with contractors and suppliers (e.g., CHP contractors, DNCC, Elster) as required.

On-Call & Issue Resolution

Respond to plant issues promptly to minimise downtime and maintain output.
Participate in an on-call rota and provide support during call-outs as required.

Documentation & Record Keeping

Maintain accurate and up-to-date operational records and databases.
Ensure all documentation is correctly filed and auditable.

This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday plus flexibility and support for holiday cover.

Essential Requirements

Proven experience in site or plant operations management, ideally within AD, waste, energy, or process industries.
Strong people management and leadership capability.
Solid operational understanding of plant systems and processes.
Basic financial and commercial awareness, including cost control.
Experience working with regulatory bodies and compliance frameworks.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to work both strategically and hands-on within the operation.

Desirable

Experience within anaerobic digestion, renewable energy, or waste management sectors.
Familiarity with SCADA systems and plant monitoring tools.
Knowledge of Ofgem regulations and energy market frameworks.
Experience managing contractors and third-party service providers.
Understanding of continuous improvement and operational efficiency methodologies
Experience in stock control and asset management systems.

Pay: From £50,000.00 per year
