Full job description

Bookkeeper — TMC Construction, Waafer Developments & Marle & Co

Location: TMC Construction site headquarters, Horsham, West Sussex (in-person) Hours: 1 day per week to start, with scope to grow as the businesses do Start date: ASAP

About the role

TMC Construction is a design-led, high-end construction firm built from the ground up by a young entrepreneur who's scaling fast. Alongside TMC, the director also runs Waafer Developments and Marle & Co — three growing businesses with real financial activity, already on Xero, but reconciling has fallen behind and there's no reliable, up-to-date visibility into cashflow across the three businesses.

We need someone to get the reconciliation properly caught up and keep it that way going forward, and give the director clear, regular visibility into where each business actually stands on cash.

What you'll be doing

Getting reconciliation across TMC, Waafer, and Marle & Co in Xero fully caught up, and keeping it current going forward
Building clear, regular cashflow reporting so the director always knows where each business actually stands
Invoicing clients and chasing payments where needed
Paying staff and processing payroll
Paying supplier and subcontractor invoices on time
Handling VAT returns and keeping records ready for the accountant at year-end
Keeping the three businesses clearly separated within Xero
Working closely with the director's Executive Assistant once in place, so financial admin plugs into the wider systems being built

What we're looking for

Solid bookkeeping experience, ideally across multiple entities or businesses at once
Confident using Xero and comfortable clearing a reconciliation backlog, not just day-to-day upkeep
Genuinely strong with software and AI tools — someone who knows where AI can save real time, e.g. automating the collection and processing of receipts, invoices, and paperwork, rather than doing everything by hand
Comfortable working independently and bringing structure to a genuinely messy starting point
Construction/property industry experience is a bonus but not essential
Discreet and trustworthy — this role has full visibility into the finances of all three businesses

What we offer

Pay is modest to start while this role beds in, but there's genuine scope to grow — more hours, better pay, and a real path to developing into a Financial Controller role as the businesses scale [exact starting rate — to be confirmed]
One day a week to start, with room to grow as the businesses and their needs grow
The chance to bring order and clear cashflow visibility to a fast-growing group of businesses, with a genuine seat at the table as that grows
