We are an innovative and forward-thinking local authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision-making.
At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising), all of which support our ultimate purpose of putting our customers first.
As local government continues to evolve, Huntingdonshire District Council is preparing for an exciting period of change through Local Government Reorganisation. While organisational structures may change in the coming years, our commitment to delivering excellent services for our communities remains unchanged.
Joining HDC now gives you a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact today whilst helping to shape the future of local government across our area. We are looking for people who are motivated by public service, embrace innovation, and want to play a part in building the organisation of tomorrow.
Here at Huntingdonshire District Council, we are preparing for one of the most significant periods of change in local government through the Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) programme. We are seeking an experienced Estates Surveyor to provide additional capacity and expertise as we strengthen our property function and ensure our estate is ready for the opportunities and challenges ahead.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Property Services team and play a key role in ensuring our property assets are well-managed, compliant, financially sustainable and positioned to support future service delivery. Working across both our commercial investment portfolio and operational estate, you will help ensure that our assets continue to deliver value for residents whilst supporting the Council through its LGR readiness programme.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Estates Surveyor to join Huntingdonshire District Council on a two-year fixed-term contract, playing a key role in supporting the Council's Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) readiness programme. Working as part of a proactive Estates team, you will help ensure the Council has a robust understanding of its property portfolio, delivering professional estate management across a diverse range of operational and investment assets while contributing to strategic property planning and organisational change.
You will be responsible for managing a varied property portfolio, leading on lease renewals, rent reviews, lettings, acquisitions and disposals, whilst building strong relationships with tenants, partners and internal stakeholders. Alongside maintaining excellent day-to-day estate management standards, you will help identify opportunities to optimise the Council's assets, maximise income generation and support long-term corporate priorities through effective property solutions and professional advice.
About you
You will be a qualified or nearly qualified Chartered Surveyor with substantial experience of estate and asset management, gained within either the public or private sector. Comfortable managing a diverse commercial property portfolio, you will bring strong technical expertise in landlord and tenant matters, lease negotiations, property transactions and asset management, together with the ability to balance commercial thinking with the wider objectives of a public sector organisation.
Just as important as your technical skills will be your ability to build positive relationships and work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. You will be a confident communicator, an effective negotiator and someone who enjoys finding practical solutions to complex property challenges. With a proactive and adaptable approach, you will thrive in a changing environment and be motivated by the opportunity to contribute to an important period of transformation while helping shape the future management of the Council's estate.
An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. HDC does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over sponsorship for any role.
