Full job description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR Coordinator, specialising in EDI, Training and Wellbeing, to join our HR team within the Department of Engineering, on a fixed-term contract for 12 months. The team and wider department are evolving and this role will offer the opportunity to help shape the future of the team and ways of working to ensure a continued high-quality service to our colleagues across the department. The institutional culture among staff and students is a major priority for the Head of Department and the HR Team to enhance the sense of belonging and mutual respect, and this role will play a critical role in enabling the department to embed this.

The Department of Engineering is the largest within the University of Cambridge (approx. 800 staff), and you will play a central part in ensuring the delivery of a high quality, effective HR service within a complex and fast paced environment. Reporting directly to the Departmental Head of HR, and as a member of the wider Departmental HR team, you will support the department in striving forward with important EDI initiatives such as Athena Swan and the Race Equality Charter. You will use your HR experience to lead on these and wider EDI initiatives and events, including liaising with and building excellent working relationships with wider HR colleagues and EDI specialists. Additionally, you will be responsible for organising and coordinating training and other related activities to support all categories of staff within the Department, utilising tools such as staff development reviews and skills matrix to inform departmental need.

By supporting the design and delivery of the departmental EDI and training strategy, you will assertively navigate multiple stakeholders demands and will ensure that the priorities of the respective Departmental Divisions are considered as part of broader departmental work, ensuring that they align to the Department's overarching purpose, values and priorities regarding internal culture and employee experience.

The successful candidate will have strong HR advisory experience, ideally with experience specialising in EDI and/or training initiatives, excellent UK employment law knowledge and the ability to effectively build strong working relationships. You will be confident and comfortable advising senior colleagues, navigating ambiguity and offering constructive challenge and solutions in line with best practice and University policy and procedure, in order to provide a comprehensive service for staff within the Department on all matters relating to EDI, training, development and wellbeing.

You will work closely alongside the Employee Relations Manager, navigating relevant issues arising from casework and working jointly towards resolution and will be supported by an HR Administrator to whom you provide proactive supervision, in conjunction with their formal line manager.

This is a maternity cover post and is fixed-term for 12 months or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.
