Job Overview

J’s Burgers is a gourmet burger shop specialising in freshly prepared, high-quality gourmet and smash burgers.

We are looking for an experienced Gourmet Burger Chef / Smash Burger Chef to join our team. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with burgers and grills and be confident preparing and cooking high-quality burgers in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

You will be responsible for preparing, cooking and assembling our burgers to a consistently high standard, while ensuring orders are completed quickly and accurately during busy service periods.

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their food, understands the importance of consistency and presentation, and can work efficiently as part of a team.

Previous experience as a Burger Chef, Smash Burger Chef, Grill Chef or in a similar fast-paced kitchen role is required.

Duties

Prepare and cook gourmet burgers and smash burgers to a consistently high standard
Confidently use a flat-top grill/griddle and understand proper smash burger cooking techniques
Prepare, season and cook burger patties correctly
Achieve the correct sear, texture and cook on every burger
Toast buns and assemble burgers according to J’s Burgers recipes and presentation standards
Prepare toppings, sauces and other ingredients ready for service
Cook and prepare sides using fryers and other kitchen equipment
Manage multiple orders efficiently during busy service periods
Ensure orders are prepared accurately and within expected service times
Maintain consistency in portion sizes, cooking and presentation
Check ingredient quality and freshness throughout each shift
Monitor stock levels and communicate when ingredients or supplies are running low
Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen and workstation
Follow all food hygiene, food safety and health & safety procedures
Store, label and rotate food correctly
Prevent cross-contamination and follow allergen procedures
Work closely with kitchen and front-of-house team members
Assist with kitchen opening, closing and cleaning duties

Experience

Previous professional kitchen experience is required
Previous experience as a Burger Chef, Smash Burger Chef or Grill Chef is highly preferred
Experience working with a flat-top grill/griddle
Good knowledge of burger preparation, cooking and assembly
Experience working in a busy restaurant, takeaway or fast-food kitchen
Ability to manage multiple orders during busy periods
Strong understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety
Ability to work quickly without compromising food quality
Good attention to detail and presentation
Reliable, punctual and able to work well as part of a team
Ability to maintain high standards when working under pressure
