Full job description

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Inspection Section Lead to join our team and help drive continuous improvement. This role involves both hands-on inspection of parts and the responsibility for overseeing and managing the inspection activities within the Inspection department.

You will lead a team of Quality Inspectors, ensuring product quality meets customer specifications and industry standards, and driving continuous improvement across the inspection processes. Oversee staffing requirements and engage in continuous improvement activities to streamline processes for operational effectiveness whilst fostering a culture of team development, communication, inclusivity and support. Ensuring delivery of on-time output against production schedules whilst removing the risk of quality escapes, this role is critical to maintaining quality and supporting production flow.

You will play a critical role in maintaining compliance with customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and internal quality standards while supporting production efficiency.

Role Responsibilities

Manage, motivate, lead and train the Inspection team ensuring that work is completed in a timely fashion with a ‘right first mentality, mentoring and guiding team members to ensure workmanship is consistently of the highest standard and productivity targets are achieved or exceeded. Development of direct reports, escalating any issues to the Head of Quality
Carry out the inspection of parts, ensuring all components meet specified quality standards, technical drawings, and customer requirements prior to release, while identifying and reporting any defects or non-conformances and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are followed.
Allocation of workload and ensuring timely feedback to the Quality team in relation to identifying/rectifying potential issues as necessary.
Ensure all concerned within the Inspection team are aware of the targets and their importance, with the ability to explain the consequences of non-achievement.
Manage non-conformance reporting (NCR) and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Employ lean manufacturing techniques to achieve productivity and efficiency targets and adhering to 5S standards.
Understand and follow all applicable Atlas Standard Processes’ and follow to maintain consistency and ensure compliance with specifications.

Conduct visual inspections to verify and/or identify any defects or imperfections as they arise, investigate with Production and Quality Team, ensuring action is taken as appropriate to ensure containment and resolution is achieved.
Collaborate with other departments regarding the non-conformance parts (Engineering, Quality, Production etc..) to ensure delivery or targeted KPI’s.
Ensure the highest possible levels of Health and Safety and Housekeeping are upheld in line with legislative, quality and good working practices.
Take an active role in Safety Audits and resolve where possible or report/recommend any corrective actions to the Head of Quality.
Support Safety initiatives and lead team in achieving/exceeding Health and Safety targets.
Report all incidents, hazards, near misses to minimise/eliminate the risk of potential further incidents occurring.
Ensure completion of regular risk assessments are carried out and archived correctly.
Responsible for accident, hazards, near misses reporting and assisting in investigation and for seeking proactive solutions to issues and reductions in incident levels to minimise/eliminate the risk of potential further incidents occurring.
Carry out regular meetings with Inspection team members regarding performance expectations, standards, attendance, etc.
Deliver communication briefings ensuring awareness of Company and local issues.
In conjunction with the Head of Quality identify and implement additional training as necessary.
In conjunction with the Head of Quality conduct appraisals, 121 reviews, toolbox talks, briefings, etc., in accordance with Company policy and highlighting any training needs for the Inspection team.
Managing Discipline, Grievance and sickness absence of team members in accordance with Company policy and supported by HR.
To actively improve your own knowledge, skills and experience to increase your contribution to the Inspection Team and Company success.
Document and maintain accurate records of inspection activities, including any issues or deviations encountered.
To undertake any other duties as reasonably expected.

Skills & Experience

Proven experience within an Inspection department, including use of Polyworks and inspection arm.
Advanced understanding of inspection within the Composite industry.
Excellent communicator, influencing and interpersonal skills, able to communicate and interact at all levels and lead by example.
Strong Leader who can set direction and others to follow.
Ability to make balanced decisions in a variety of challenging situations.
Enthusiastic, results orientated, self-motivated individual with a ‘can-do attitude’.
Experience of People Management.
