Job summary

Hampshire CAMHS West Early Help Service (Primary Mental Health Workers) are offering an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner.

This post covers the South-West Hampshire area which includes New Forest, Eastleigh, Winchester and Andover. A core qualification and professional registration in nursing, social work or occupational therapy is essential.

Having experience of working with children, young people and families is essential as is confidence in working with young people with a range of complex mental health conditions and neurodevelopmental conditions. You will be supported to develop in this role through line management and clinical supervision and encouraged to undertake additional training as appropriate for the role and your development.

The early help services in CAMHS are undergoing a period of change and development. This role will involve embracing and supporting this change, whilst continuing to provide vital and high-quality care to young people and their families.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The band 6 mental health practitioner role will involve a wide range of clinical work, such as:

Assessing children and young people for a wide range of mental health conditions, risk assessing and safety planning with young people and their families and implementing safeguarding support as appropriate.
Presenting formulations at multi-disciplinary meetings and advocating for young people to organise their care plans and support them to receive treatment and improve outcomes.
Facilitating evidence based therapeutic interventions for young people and families - usually on a group basis and at times on a 1 to 1 basis.
Working as duty clinician to support young people and families with increased concerns whilst waiting for support for their mental health. Working on duty also involves liaising with professional networks to support young people with their mental health, manage risk and support safety planning.
Liaising with other teams and professionals within CAMHS to support young people to receive appropriate care.
Supporting in attending and facilitating events such as Parent and Carer events, workshops and drop ins for the community, to empower people to understand mental health, neurodiversity and support young people in their lives.
