Overview:

ISFL Recovery Worker

HMP Rochester | West Kent Prisons

Help create a space where recovery can take hold.

Recovery can begin anywhere.

Sometimes it starts with a conversation. Sometimes it begins when someone feels listened to for the first time. And sometimes it starts within a community built around safety, trust and the belief that change is possible.

At Change Grow Live, we work alongside people affected by drug and alcohol use, helping them reduce harm, build resilience and move towards healthier, more fulfilling lives.

We’re looking for an experienced and compassionate ISFL Recovery Worker to join our team at HMP Rochester. You’ll work specifically within the Incentivised Substance Free Living Wing, helping to create a positive recovery-focused environment where people can engage with treatment, strengthen their motivation and prepare for life beyond custody.

The opportunity

This is a specialist role within the prison Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service.

You’ll hold the Change Grow Live caseload for the ISFL Wing and take the lead on delivering groups, structured programmes and individual interventions. Working closely with the wider Change Grow Live team, prison operational colleagues and healthcare partners, you’ll help build a strong sense of community on the wing and support people to take meaningful steps in their recovery.

You’ll be involved from initial screening and assessment through to ongoing treatment and release planning, ensuring each person receives support that reflects their individual strengths, risks and goals.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll:

Manage a caseload of people living on the ISFL Wing.
Deliver psychosocial interventions, structured groups and recovery programmes.
Complete screening, assessment, recovery planning and regular reviews.
Work alongside the Clinical Substance Misuse Team to develop and implement integrated care plans.
Support clinical reviews for people receiving prescribed treatment.
Act as a referral pathway for people who would like to join the ISFL Wing.
Work closely with the Drug Strategy Governor to support the development and improvement of the wing.
Contribute to risk management processes, including ACCT procedures where appropriate.
Follow up missed appointments and look for opportunities to re-engage people in support.
Work with healthcare, prison teams, community services and external agencies to support effective release planning.
Promote harm reduction, resilience, peer support and self-determination.
Advocate for people who may find it difficult to engage with treatment or express their needs.

Location and working arrangements

Location: West Kent Prisons
Base: HMP Rochester
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles, salary and payments will be pro rata based on contracted hours.

About you

You’ll bring a calm, thoughtful and recovery-focused approach to your work.

You’ll have:

A strong understanding of drug and alcohol use and experience working within a related field.
Experience managing a caseload and delivering person-centred interventions.
The ability to build positive professional relationships with people who may have complex needs.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organisation, time management and IT skills.
An understanding of safeguarding, risk management, confidentiality and information governance.
The confidence to work independently while contributing fully to a multidisciplinary team.
Sensitivity when working with people from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.
The resilience and adaptability needed to work effectively within a secure environment.

Experience within a prison or criminal justice setting would be beneficial, although it is not essential.

Additional information

The successful candidate will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS check and obtain the relevant HMPPS, Ministry of Justice or police security clearance before starting in post.
