Job overview

The Band 6 Discharge Lounge Sister/Charge Nurse will provide clinical leadership and day-to-day coordination of the Discharge Lounge, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care. The post holder will oversee patient flow through the service, support timely and safe discharges, coordinate the multidisciplinary team, and act as a role model for clinical practice. They will be responsible for maintaining high standards of care, promoting patient experience, supporting staff development, and contributing to the efficient use of hospital capacity through effective discharge planning and coordination.

We are recruiting two posts - 1x full time; 1x part-time.

Main duties of the job

The Band 6 Discharge Lounge Sister/Charge Nurse will be responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of the Discharge Lounge, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care. The post holder will oversee patient flow, prioritise admissions to the lounge, and facilitate timely and safe discharges in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. They will provide clinical leadership and support to nursing staff, monitor patient safety, manage clinical risks, ensure accurate documentation and medication management, and act as a key point of contact for patients, carers, ward teams, pharmacy, transport, and community services. The post holder will contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, staff training, and the achievement of organisational targets relating to patient flow and discharge processes.
