Summary

We are seeking a Retail Operations Assistant to join our team in Chigwell. This role is vital in supporting daily store operations, enhancing customer satisfaction, and contributing to our company's growth and community engagement.

Contract: Part-Time
Shifts: Flexible weekday, Saturdays, Sundays and lunch-cover shifts required

We are looking for an organised, proactive and customer-focused Retail Operations Assistant to join our growing retail team.

This is not a standard retail assistant role. Alongside customer service and day-to-day shop operations, this position forms part of a structured operational development programme designed to build long-term retail, commercial and department management skills across the business.

The role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, takes initiative, notices detail and is comfortable balancing multiple responsibilities within a busy retail environment.

About The Role

As a Retail Operations Assistant, you will support the daily running of the shop while learning how different departments operate commercially and operationally.

You will work across:

customer service
till operations
stock replenishment
deliveries and production flow
merchandising and standards
operational coordination
seasonal changeovers
department support

You will gradually develop increasing responsibility throughout the programme, including operational support, department accountability and keyholding duties.

As part of the programme, you will develop department specialisms and take increasing ownership of standards, organisation and operational coordination within selected areas of the business.

Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service & Sales

Deliver excellent customer service
Process cash and card payments
Handle refunds and exchanges
Support customer enquiries
Assist with linked-selling and upselling opportunities

Store Operations

Support deliveries and stock processing
Replenish and maintain shop floor standards
Carry out operational and department checks
Support opening and closing procedures
Learn keyholding responsibilities
Support lone working procedures once trained

Operational Coordination

Identify and report stock or merchandising issues
Organise supplier and transfer requests
Support ordering and replacement processes
Complete operational reports and department reviews
Assist with seasonal planning and merchandising changes
Coordinate follow-up actions across departments

Retail experience is helpful but not essential. A strong work ethic, attention to detail and willingness to learn are more important.

Development & Progression

This role forms part of a structured operational development pathway within the business.

During the six-month development programme, team members will gradually build operational, commercial and department management skills across the store.

As competency and confidence develop, responsibilities will expand to include:

department specialist responsibilities
independent operational support
keyholding duties
supervisory responsibilities
future store management pathways

The programme is designed to develop long-term operational team members with increasing ownership and accountability across the business.

Weekend availability is essential
Flexibility is important due to the nature of retail trading
Some lone working may be required once fully trained
