Full job description

We are seeking a new staff member to join our team at our small pizzeria on Worthing seafront, primarily as a food prep assistant/second chef but with flexibility to jump between roles to help with the smooth running of the restaurant, such as front of house/taking orders, washing up, kitchen cleaning duties etc, particularly when it comes to closing down at the end of the evenings.

Candidates will ideally have previous experience but will also receive training in an often fast paced setting, be hard working & able to perform under pressure, have good face to face customer service skills & be a good team player who is willing to put their hand to any task. Good timekeeping skills are a must to ensure we are prepared for opening & so that we don’t add extra pressure onto the rest of the team. Good personal hygiene is essential as you will be handling food and dealing with the public.

An understanding of the importance of staying behind after service has finished to help with the closing down duties is essential, leaving the restaurant & kitchen clean and organised ready for the next day to enable the owners & other staff to all leave at a reasonable time. Finish times will be variable & late at night so this role is best suited to someone who can get home easily without being limited by bus times as we do require someone who can stay until the end of close down.

We are open from Wednesday to Sundays, We are closed on Mondays & Tuesdays. This is mostly an evening/night time based business with day shifts also available at weekends. Being able to work weekends is a must as this is our busiest period so please do not apply if this does not suit your lifestyle. Weekends off can be arranged as holiday by requesting in advance.

Duties will include:

Basic food prep, learning the menu and topping pizzas, plating up pizzas, preparing salads with an eye to detail for presentation, reading order tickets carefully with regards to dietary requirements and allergens, maintaining a clean, organised and safe workspace, keeping food stored & labelled properly in clean fridges, following hygiene rules and colour coding for equipment. Packing down and cleaning the pizza prep area at the end of each day to the highest standard, completing hygiene paperwork daily to confirm all tasks have been completed. Deep cleaning every Sunday night and during quiet times.

If extra hours are required then Other tasks may include:

Helping with getting the restaurant ready for opening (cleaning tables, sweeping, cleaning outside decking area, tidying up, ensuring toilet is stocked & clean, cutlery & equipment is in place)

Greeting customers & handing out menus, Taking orders from customers face to face and over the phone in a friendly & helpful manner. Passing food orders straight away to the chefs.

Preparing drinks (soft drinks, wine, draught beer & bottles, spirits & mixers)

Keeping an eye on customers and being ready to respond if needed.

Issuing bills to customers and taking payments.

Clearing & cleaning tables promptly after customers have left or asking KP’s to come and help.

Keeping the restaurant and bar area clean tidy & hygienic throughout service.

Dedication to getting stuck in and helping close down at the end of each shift by cleaning tables, putting chairs up, cleaning down the bar, helping to finish off in the kitchen with washing up & equipment being put away, sweeping, wiping down all surfaces, mopping & anything else required to help the owners be able to leave at a reasonable time whilst helping to keep our 5 star hygiene rating in place.

Extra hours could be made available if willing to be adaptable to other roles and fill in when other staff are off.

Pay will be dependent on age & will be minimum wage to start with. This is a zero hours contract but will always aim to offer roughly the same hours weekly with accrued holiday pay available when we close for any reason.

Free food & drink on shift days as well as staff discounts on other days (to include family).

All tips are shared between staff on shift.

Pay: £8.00-£12.71 per hour
