Summary

The children, staff and governing body of Lea Community Primary School are looking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated Pastoral Assistant to join our inclusion team in effectively supporting the individual needs of all our children and their families. School life at Lea centres around ensuring our children are happy and our school values which, along with our nurturing ethos provides the essence to our successful and inclusive school. Supporting our children and families through outstanding pastoral care is intrinsic within our daily work and lies at the heart of all we do.

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Assistant to provide pastoral support to our pupils. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting childrens attendance at school and emotional wellbeing, and in helping them to overcome barriers to learning.

Working closely within our Inclusion Team, our Pastoral Leader, and class teachers, you will support pupils both in and out of the classroom, helping to promote attendance, positive behaviour, emotional resilience, and engagement in school life.

This is a new post and will be a rewarding role where you can make a real difference to the lives of our children. We are passionate about the development of our staff and training opportunities will be available, including the option to complete a L5 TA qualification specialising in SEMH.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small group pastoral support to pupils by delivering bespoke interventions
Support children with social, emotional, and mental health SEMH needs
Help pupils regulate emotions and develop positive coping strategies
Work closely with teachers to support behaviour and engagement in lessons
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and families
Provide family support to remove barriers and ensure childrens regular attendance at school.
Liaise with external agencies where appropriate
Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing school environment

Essential Qualifications

Relevant qualifications in Maths and English (GCSE or equivalent)

Desirable Qualifications

Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant) are desirable but not essential

Essential Experience

Experience working with children, ideally in a primary school, family support, or similar setting
Be genuinely dedicated, from the inside out, to our relational policy
A strong understanding of pastoral care, safeguarding, trauma, behaviour, SEMH and supporting wellbeing

Desirable Experience

Experience of the Thrive Approach or similar is desirable
Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Ability to build strong relationships with children, families and staff
Good communication and teamwork skills
