Full job description

Background:

Ivybridge Brewing Company is a very different type of brewery. We change the lives of

adults with learning disabilities and autism by providing them with training and employment

opportunities in beer production and retail. We also change the lives of our customers by

raising their awareness of the important contribution people with additional needs can

make in society.

Our taproom is a vital part of our operation, acting as an important training and work hub

for our trainees and a community space for the town of Ivybridge. It also helps us raise

income to support our mission. We are looking to appoint a taproom manager to take

responsibility for the smooth running of taproom bar and shop, provide support for our

trainees and to increase beer sales.

Are you right for this job?

Are you someone who is ready to take on an exciting challenge, has a passion for working

with people with disabilities and seeing their progress, but also the drive and practical skills

associated with working in hospitality and sales? You should also be adaptable and willing to

take on roles in supporting and training our team, marketing and liaising with customers

and other stakeholders, and running events. Ideally, you would have experience of

interacting with people with learning disabilities and of running a bar or retail service, but

we would also like to hear from people who have experience in either area, who feel that

they could pick up the necessary skills with ease.

Primary responsibilities

Taproom service

Working bar shifts alongside members of our team.
Overseeing our team members in work tasks such as pouring drinks and point of sale

payments. Managing the cellar during service, including changing kegs.

Maintaining bar stocks, including liaising with the production manager for our own

draft beer stocks.

Ensuring that our taproom is a safe working and retail environment.

Staffing and staff support

Provide training in bar and retail work.
Maintaining training logs and work records.
Organising the team rota, including stand-in bar staff, and recording working hours

for payroll.

Working within our policies and procedures (e.g. safeguarding, safety)
Liaising with other bars and hospitality providers to set up work placements.

Championing our cause and increasing our customer base

Organising taproom events and pop-up food vendors.
Integrating our impact stories into our taproom and retail space.
Advertising and marketing – getting our story out to potential new customers as well

as advertising taproom events and special offers on social media etc.

Growing our on-site (shop) and external retail sales, including external events.

General

Working within our licensing and other procedures.
General bar administrative work.
Undertake additional tasks that may be requested from time to time, consistent with

the nature of the role.

Attend management meetings, including some chairing.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential

Managing, training and motivating other people and working in a team.
Empathetic, patient and sympathetic (i.e. good emotional intelligence)
Good time keeping and organisational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks.
To be able to work at weekends and evenings.
IT skills, including a basic knowledge of social media

Desirable

Experience of interacting with vulnerable adults*.
Bar or retail work, including stock management*.
Running events.
Sales including increasing sales through marketing.
Holds a personal licence for alcohol sales.
Holds a driving licence.

*Note that although listed as desirables, it’s likely that candidates would have experience in

at least one of these areas.
