The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and dynamic Clinical Nurse Manager to lead our nursing team and ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred clinical care across our services.

Key Responsibilities
As our Clinical Nurse Manager, you will provide visible clinical leadership, ensuring the highest standards of care, safety and governance across our detoxification and residential services.
Clinical Leadership
- Lead, inspire and develop the nursing and wider clinical teams to deliver outstanding care.
- Provide expert clinical leadership in detoxification, physical healthcare, medicines management and clinical risk.
- Promote evidence-based, person-centred, trauma-informed and recovery-focused practice.
- Support complex clinical decision-making and act as a senior clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team.
Operational Management
- Oversee the day-to-day clinical operation of the detoxification unit.
- Ensure safe staffing levels through effective workforce planning and rota management.
- Coordinate admissions, detoxification pathways, transfers and discharge planning.
- Work collaboratively with medical, therapeutic and operational colleagues to ensure seamless service delivery.
Clinical Governance
- Lead the organisation's clinical governance framework, promoting a culture of learning, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Oversee incident reporting, investigations, lessons learned and reflective practice.
- Monitor clinical effectiveness through audits, quality assurance and service improvement initiatives.
- Maintain robust clinical risk management systems.
- Develop, review and implement clinical policies, procedures and best practice guidance.
- Produce and present governance reports for internal committees and represent the organisation at external partnership meetings.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with CQC Fundamental Standards, Quality Statements and all relevant legislation.
Quality Assurance
- Lead a comprehensive programme of clinical audits, including documentation, medicines management, care planning, infection prevention and control, safeguarding, and health and safety.
- Develop and monitor quality improvement action plans.
- Ensure the service remains inspection-ready by preparing evidence and supporting continuous compliance.
Staff Leadership and Development
- Recruit, induct, supervise and retain high-performing nursing and clinical support staff.
- Conduct regular supervision, appraisal and competency assessments.
- Manage attendance, wellbeing, capability and performance in line with organisational policies.
- Ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements.
- Deliver and facilitate clinical training programmes, including Basic Life Support (BLS) and other mandatory education.
Medicines Management
- Lead on medicines optimisation and safe medication practices.
- Ensure the safe prescribing, storage, administration and disposal of medicines.
- Monitor controlled drugs in accordance with legislation and best practice.
- Lead medication audits, investigations and improvement initiatives.
Infection Prevention and Control
- Act as the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Lead for clinical services.
- Develop and implement IPC policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular audits, manage outbreaks where required and ensure compliance with national guidance.
Safeguarding
- Work collaboratively with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Promote a culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.
- Liaise effectively with local safeguarding partnerships and statutory agencies.
Health and Safety
- Promote a safe, therapeutic environment for clients, visitors and colleagues.
- Ensure clinical and environmental risk assessments are completed and reviewed.
- Support emergency preparedness and compliance with health and safety legislation.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Practise in accordance with the NMC Code and all relevant professional standards.
- Maintain professional revalidation and continuing professional development.
- Act as an ambassador and role model for the organisation's values and standards.
CQC and Regulatory Compliance
- Provide leadership and assurance across the CQC Quality Statements, ensuring services are Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led.
- Lead continuous service improvement programmes that enhance client outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations and associated legislation.
- Maintain inspection readiness throughout the year, embedding a culture of quality, compliance and excellence.
About You
You will be a motivated and resilient clinical leader who is committed to delivering outstanding care and supporting people on their recovery journey.
You will have:
- Registration as a Registered General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Significant post-registration clinical experience, ideally within addiction services, mental health, community nursing, or a related field.
- Previous management or senior leadership experience within a clinical environment.
- Excellent knowledge of clinical governance, safeguarding, medication management, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong communication, organisational, and decision-making skills.
- The ability to lead, motivate, and develop a multidisciplinary team.
- A compassionate, person-centred approach aligned with recovery principles.
