Description

The Head of Curriculum is a key operational leadership role, responsible for the day-to-day management, delivery, and quality assurance within a designated curriculum area. Reporting directly to the Dean of Faculty, the HoC will ensure a successful and enjoyable learning experience for all learners, driving high standards of teaching, learning, and learner outcomes through effective operational planning, hands-on team management, and the local implementation of college policies and strategies.

The post could involve extensive travel across Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion, flexibility in working hours, and will lead to working within the Dual Sector University.

What you will be doing

Provide effective operational leadership for the ILS, Fresh Start and Foundation department.
Lead and manage curriculum teams to deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment that enables learners to achieve their full potential.
Drive continuous improvement through effective quality assurance, self-assessment, performance monitoring and quality improvement planning.
Monitor learner recruitment, attendance, retention, achievement and progression, implementing targeted interventions where required.
Lead curriculum planning and development, ensuring programmes respond to employer demand, regional priorities and Welsh Government and Medr strategic objectives.
Lead and support staff through effective performance management, coaching and professional development.
Oversee operational aspects of curriculum delivery, including staffing, timetabling, resource planning and budget management.
Champion inclusive practice, equality, diversity and learner wellbeing, ensuring all learners receive the support they need to succeed.
Promote bilingualism and support the development of Welsh-medium learning opportunities across the curriculum.
Contribute to whole-college strategic priorities and cross-college initiatives that enhance learner success and organisational performance.

Holds a degree or equivalent qualification together with a recognised teaching qualification.
Has substantial experience of leading curriculum teams within an educational environment.
Demonstrates excellent organisational, operational and communication skills.
Can analyse performance data and use evidence to drive continuous improvement.
Has experience of managing budgets, resources and operational planning.
Has a strong understanding of current developments and best practice relevant to the role, including employer, professional and industry requirements, alongside knowledge and experience of promoting independent living skills and applying trauma-informed approaches to support individuals’ needs, development and wellbeing.
Is committed to delivering an outstanding learner experience, promoting equality, diversity, inclusion and learner wellbeing. Can work collaboratively with internal and external partners to develop innovative curriculum provision and progression pathways.
Is a professional, adaptable and forward-thinking leader who is committed to continuous improvement and professional development.

Desirable experience includes working with higher education partnerships, professional registration and awarding bodies, curriculum innovation, and employer engagement within education.

Coleg Sir Gâr was created in 1985 and became a corporate institution in 1993. In 2013 it became Coleg Sir Gar Ltd, a company within the University of Wales: Trinity Saint David Group, and part of a regional Dual Sector University. The College has an annual turnover of over £35m and employs around 800 staff.

Coleg Ceredigion was created in 1985 and became a corporate institution in 1993. The college merged with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David as a subsidiary company in 2014. The college has an annual turnover of £6m and employs around 180 staff.

The College is based in South West Wales and has seven main campuses at Llanelli (Graig), Carmarthen (Pibwrlwyd and Jobs Well), Ammanford, Llandeilo (Gelli Aur), Aberystwyth and Cardigan. The College is also home to Carmarthen School of Art which has its origins dating back to 1854.
