12 month ASYE leading to a Permanent Social Work role in an Adult Social Care Team on successful completion.

Applications are now open for the Assessed and Supported Year of Employment (ASYE) Programme in Adult Social Care in Newham. We are recruiting for posts in our Promoting Independence Review Team, Our Street Population Team, Our Learning Disability Team and our Reablement Team.

We are currently recruiting for newly qualified social workers who will be able to commence work in late summer/ autumn 2026. Social Workers who graduated in 2024 or earlier need not apply.

We are one of the UK’s most diverse local authorities with vibrant communities of many nationalities, ethnicities, languages, faiths, and customs. We are looking for dedicated and ambitious social workers who are keen to make a difference.

We view the ASYE as an investment in the service we provide to our community. The Newham ASYE programme is a comprehensive introduction to the profession for NQSWs, with monthly dedicated training, on-the-job targeted learning, and reflective space. Participants will be supported by their line-manager and dedicated ASYE assessor, as well as the Workforce and Practice Development Team. Our emphasis is on learning and reflection so that NQSWs finish their ASYE with us, having gained a wealth of experience and feeling confident in their role and their identity as a social worker.

In Newham, the ASYE marks the beginning of a structured career progression pathway, offering clear routes into management and opportunities to further develop professional practice. This includes the option to train as a Practice Educator, supporting and developing the next generation of social workers. We also offer a comprehensive training and development programme aligned to our ambitious and well-supported career pathway.

You must be eligible to undertake the ASYE under the national criteria:
- You must have been awarded an eligible social work qualification in 2025 or anticipating an award in 2026.
- You will need to be registered with Social Work England prior to your start date in 2026.

About Us
The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium.
