Site & Facilities Caretaker - Welwyn Garden City Golf Club

Reports to: Club Operations Coordinator

Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week, typically around 4 hours per day, with some flexibility and occasional weekend working.

Role Purpose

The Site & Facilities Caretaker is a practical, hands-on role responsible for helping to keep the Club’s buildings, grounds and facilities safe, well maintained and well presented.

The role combines general handyman and maintenance duties, gardening and grounds care, routine health and safety checks, and general oversight of the Club property. The postholder will also coordinate and attend site visits with external providers and provide practical support for the set-up and delivery of major Club events.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Property

Carry out general handyman duties, minor repairs and routine maintenance.
Regularly inspect the property and identify maintenance or repair requirements.
Deal with straightforward issues directly and report larger or specialist requirements to the Club Operations Coordinator.
Coordinate site visits with external providers and attend appointments on behalf of the Club, including pest control, fire safety services, electrical testing and other maintenance or compliance providers.
Provide access to contractors, explain relevant site requirements and report any follow-up actions or issues.
Help ensure Club facilities, equipment and external areas remain in good working order.

Grounds & Presentation

Undertake basic gardening, including watering and plant care.
Help maintain the clubhouse surrounds, entrances, pathways and other external areas.
Ensure the site is tidy and well presented, particularly ahead of Club events.

Health & Safety

Carry out routine site and health and safety checks.
Undertake regular fire alarm testing and maintain appropriate records.
Complete other routine building, equipment and safety checks as required.
Identify and promptly report hazards, defects or safety concerns.
Support external inspections, testing and servicing visits, ensuring relevant records and recommendations are passed to the Club Operations Coordinator.

Club Events

Assist with the preparation and set-up of the site for major Club events.
Help with furniture, equipment, facilities and general site presentation.
Provide practical support during major events where required.
Undertake some agreed weekend working associated with event preparation and delivery.

Person Specification

We are looking for a reliable, practical and proactive individual who takes pride in maintaining a property to a high standard.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

Strong general handyman and practical maintenance skills.
Previous experience in property maintenance, facilities, caretaking or a similar hands-on role.
The ability to undertake minor repairs and general gardening and grounds-care tasks.
A good practical understanding of health and safety.
The initiative to identify and resolve issues without needing close supervision.
Good organisational and communication skills, including the ability to coordinate and attend contractor and service-provider visits.
A reliable, flexible approach and willingness to work occasional weekends and additional hours around major Club events.

Working Arrangements

The role is approximately 20 hours per week, normally spread across the working week in periods of around four hours per day. The precise working pattern can be agreed to suit the operational needs of the Club.

Some flexibility will be required, including occasional early starts and weekend working for major Club events. Additional hours may occasionally be available by agreement.

Pay: £12.71 per hour

Expected hours: 15.0 – 25.0 per week
