Salem provides specialist, child-centred support services for children and young people who require safe, structured, and nurturing environments. Our work includes planned activity-based stays, emergency and short-term placements, respite support, and therapeutic provision designed to promote stability, resilience, and positive outcomes.

With significant experience supporting young people from across the UK, we are committed to delivering meaningful opportunities that help individuals build confidence, develop life skills, and successfully transition towards independence, education, and employment.

Due to continued growth, we are seeking motivated, caring, and resilient individuals to join our dedicated support team. This is a rewarding opportunity for people who are empathetic, proactive, enjoy hands-on and outdoor activities, and are passionate about making a lasting difference in the lives of children and young people.

Key Requirements:

Enhanced DBS (update service or willingness to obtain one)
First Aid Certificate (minimum 8 hours)
Full & Clean UK Driving Licence

Desirable Qualities & Experience:

Experience supporting children or young people who present complex emotional, behavioural, or social needs
Background working within respite services, therapeutic provision, education settings, outdoor learning environments, or wider social care contexts
Clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities, child protection procedures, and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build positive and professional relationships
Ability to deliver compassionate, child-centred support that reflects empathy, respect, and consistency
Confident IT skills, including use of digital systems such as Google Workspace and maintaining accurate, timely records
Effective organisational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, contributing positively to a supportive working culture
Resilient, calm, and adaptable approach when responding to challenging or high-pressure situations
Initiative and creativity in planning meaningful activities and responding to the individual needs of young people
Relevant qualifications, experience, or a genuine interest in outdoor learning, physical activity, or experiential approaches to support
Commitment to reflective practice, continuous professional development, and achieving positive outcomes for children and young people

Responsibilities:

Provide personalised care and support to children and young people in their daily routines
Contribute to creating a safe, structured, and engaging environment that meets the individual needs of each young person
Promote the physical, emotional, and social well-being of children and young people
Assist with meal planning, preparation, and nutritional support
Encourage and support young people in developing independence, life skills, and confidence
Plan, lead, or participate in meaningful activities, including outdoor and recreational programmes, to foster social, emotional, and cognitive development
Observe, monitor, and accurately report changes in the physical, emotional, or behavioural well-being of young people
Maintain clean, safe, and organised living and activity spaces
Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals to ensure holistic care and support
Support the upkeep and proper use of facilities, equipment, and resources
Participate in ongoing training, reflective practice, and team support to continuously improve the quality of care provided

Additional Information:
