The Role
Due to continued growth, CDR M&E Services is looking for an experienced Air Conditioning Engineer to join our mechanical team, working across commercial sites throughout the North East.
This is a varied role covering Air Conditioning installation, servicing, planned maintenance, breakdowns, fault finding and repairs.
We're looking for someone who is technically confident, reliable and comfortable working independently across a range of commercial A/C systems.
You'll be joining a growing mechanical division with support from our Mechanical Services Supervisor, apprentices and wider operations team.
Our workload includes planned and reactive maintenance alongside installations and replacement projects, so we're looking for an engineer who enjoys variety and can take responsibility for jobs from arrival on site through to completion.
What You'll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Servicing and maintaining commercial Air Conditioning systems
- Attending A/C breakdowns and reactive call-outs
- Diagnosing faults and identifying system issues
- Carrying out repairs and remedial works
- Installing new Air Conditioning systems
- Replacing existing and end-of-life equipment
- Working on split and multi-split systems
- Carrying out pressure testing
- Evacuating and commissioning systems
- Refrigerant recovery and charging
- Leak detection and repairs
- Completing planned preventative maintenance
- Cleaning coils, filters and condensate systems
- Investigating drainage and condensate issues
- Electrical fault finding associated with A/C equipment
- Identifying additional defects and remedial works while on site
- Providing clear information for quotations where further works are required
- Completing commissioning and service documentation
- Maintaining accurate F-Gas records
- Completing electronic job sheets and site photographs
- Liaising professionally with clients and site representatives
- Working alongside our commercial gas, plumbing and electrical engineers
- Supporting apprentices and junior engineers where appropriate
- Ensuring all work is completed safely and to a high standard

- Domestic properties
Our workload includes both planned maintenance contracts and reactive works, alongside new installations, system replacements and wider mechanical projects.
Typical equipment and systems include:
- Split Air Conditioning systems
- Multi-split systems
- Wall-mounted units
- Ceiling cassette units
- Ceiling suspended units
- Ducted systems
- Condensing units
- Heat pump systems
- Associated controls
- Condensate pumps and drainage
- Ventilation and associated HVAC equipment
Experience working with a range of manufacturers would be advantageous.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants should have strong practical experience working on commercial Air Conditioning systems and be capable of working independently.
Essential
Applicants should have:
- Current F-Gas qualification
- Experience servicing and maintaining Air Conditioning systems
- Experience with A/C installations
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic ability
- Experience working with split and multi-split systems
- Understanding of refrigeration principles
- Experience with pressure testing, evacuation and commissioning
- Experience with refrigerant recovery and charging
- Ability to identify faults and required remedial works
- Good understanding of electrical controls associated with A/C systems
- Good understanding of health & safety and safe systems of work
- Good customer communication skills
- Professional and reliable approach
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
The following would be advantageous but are not essential:
- NVQ / City & Guilds qualification in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
- Commercial HVAC experience
- VRV / VRF experience
- Heat pump experience
- Ventilation experience
- Controls and BMS experience
- Electrical qualifications
- Commercial refrigeration experience
- IPAF
- PASMA
- Manufacturer-specific training
- Experience supervising or mentoring apprentices
You don't need to hold every desirable qualification.
We're primarily looking for someone with a strong Air Conditioning background who can confidently install, service, diagnose and repair commercial A/C systems.
