Full job description

An exciting opportunity has become available to work within Information Rights as part of Audit Risk and Assurance. The position is full time and permanent on a hybrid basis with the expectation of working in the office at least one day per week.

This post directly supports the Council’s commitment to being an “open” organisation and working transparently with our residents, businesses and partners to deliver our ambition in Cheshire East. About you

As Information Rights Officer you will support the Information Rights Team Leader in the delivery of the Council’s responsibilities under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations, Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations, and associated legislation, including the preparation of responses and conducting internal reviews.

You will manage the work of junior staff, making certain that processes are in place to support compliance with statutory deadlines. You will also provide advice and guidance across the organisation to support all staff in meeting information rights legislation requirements.

The successful candidate will identify opportunities for the proactive publication of information and datasets as part of the Council’s aim to be an open and transparent organisation, and engage with services to promote best practice, share learning and identify improvements. Some technical ability will be required to lead on the management, development and training of the case management system used across the organisation.

The successful candidate will have:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Sound knowledge of freedom of information and data protection legislation
Experience in handling high volume and complex caseload
The ability to work flexibly as part of a team and independently
The ability to converse at ease with internal and external customers
Enthusiasm and self-motivation
