Full job description

Job Overview

Due to continued business growth, we are seeking an experienced General HaulageTransport Planner to coordinate and manage up to 50 vehicles across multidrop and full-load road haulage operations. This role requires the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining high operational and financial standards. Occasional out-of-hours work may also be required.

The successful candidate will have previous experience within General Haulage transport operations, strong communication skills, and a solid understanding of basic IT systems. A professional, customer-focused approach and the ability to work collaboratively within a team are essential.

Working closely with the existing traffic team, you will help ensure key operational objectives are achieved while consistently delivering excellent service to customers. Applicants should have general haulage experience and a good knowledge of UK road networks and transport operations.

Due to the nature of the role and operational requirements, flexibility with working hours is essential. The successful candidate will be expected to work 10-hour shifts and adapt working times where necessary to meet business and customer demands.

Shift Pattern - 0530 - 1530, but hours may vary depending on business demands and shift patterns may be rotated as required.

Key Responsibilities

Planning, organising, and adjusting routes in line with operational requirements
Managing drivers, including agency drivers and subcontractors
Planning local collections
Backloading vehicles
Ensuring timely departures and reporting any operational exceptions
Supporting traffic planners in achieving operational and financial targets
Handling route disruptions caused by breakdowns, traffic delays, or accidents
Ensuring compliance with Operator’s Licence regulations and driver hours legislation
Monitoring, controlling, and authorising driver hours in line with company procedures
Managing accident reporting processes and ensuring all documentation is completed accurately
Ensuring all agency driver paperwork, disclaimers, licence checks, and briefings are completed correctly
Motivating and supporting drivers to maintain high performance standards
Working collaboratively within the traffic office, adapting to changing daily operational demands

About You

2 Years Previous experience in General Haulage is required
Strong communication skills with drivers, planners, and depot teams
Computer literate with a good understanding of basic IT systems
Flexible and adaptable to meet business requirements
Proactive team player with a positive attitude
Able to work effectively under pressure in a fast-moving environment

Desirable

CPC qualification would be advantageous but is not essential

Experience Required

Minimum of 2 years’ experience within a traffic office environment preferred
Salary will be dependent upon experience.

Pay: £35,000.00-£42,000.00 per year
