We're looking for an inspiring hospitality professional who enjoys leading people, solving problems, and creating memorable visitor experiences. You'll be equally comfortable supporting your team during a busy lunch service as you are analysing sales, managing stock, or planning improvements behind the scenes.
You will be passionate about delivering excellent hospitality while embracing Jupiter Artland's unique environment, helping to create a café experience that compliments the world-class art, landscape, and visitor journey.
As Café Manager, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the café is not only a destination for great food and drink, but also an integral part of the overall Jupiter Artland experience.
Role Overview
The Café Manager is responsible for the successful day-to-day management of Jupiter Artland Café and it's adjoining takeaway outlets, delivering an exceptional visitor experience while ensuring operational excellence, financial performance, and high standards across all aspects of the business.
Working closely with the Food & Beverage and Events Manager, the Café Manager will lead and develop the café team, oversee daily operations, manage stock and budgets, and ensure the café reflects Jupiter Artland's values of creativity, sustainability, quality, and outstanding hospitality.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a proactive, organised individual who is passionate about hospitality and thrives in a dynamic visitor attraction.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Manage the daily operation of the café, ensuring smooth, efficient service and consistently high standards.
- Lead by example, maintaining a visible presence on the café floor during busy service.
- Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Monitor service standards, cleanliness, presentation & consistency, and visitor satisfaction throughout the day.
- Continually review café operations to improve efficiency and the visitor experience.
Team Management
- Recruit, train, develop, and motivate the café team in partnership with the Food & Beverage & Events Manager.
- Provide day-to-day leadership and support to the Café Supervisor and wider team.
- Produce staff rotas that meet operational needs while managing labour budgets.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching, and development conversations.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative working culture.
Financial & Commercial Performance
- Manage café budgets, labour costs, and stock expenditure to achieve financial targets.
- Monitor daily sales, average spend, and key performance indicators.
- Identify opportunities to increase revenue through product development, merchandising, and seasonal offerings.
- Work closely with the Food & Beverage and Events Manager to deliver commercial objectives and maximise profitability.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with Food Hygiene, HACCP, Health & Safety, allergen management, and licensing legislation.
- Maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness throughout front and back-of-house operations.
- Ensure all food safety documentation is completed accurately and consistently.
- Promote a culture of safe working practices.
Visitor Experience
- Champion excellent customer service and create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all visitors.
- Respond professionally to customer feedback and resolve any issues promptly.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Jupiter Artland to support exhibitions, events, private hires, and seasonal programming.
The Right candidate will have a range of skillset including but not limited to below:
Essential
- Proven management experience within a fast paced hospitality environment.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing budgets, labour, and stock.
- Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
- Sound knowledge of food hygiene, HACCP, allergen management, and Health & Safety legislation.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and seasonal peak periods.
- Experience using EPOS systems, stock management software, and rota planning systems.
- Barista experience and knowledge of speciality coffee.
Desirable
- Experience working within a visitor attraction, museum, gallery, or cultural venue.
- Personal Licence holder.
- First Aid qualification.
