North Tyneside Children’s Social Care is considered to be Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted. We want the best for our children and families, and would encourage you to join us in our commitment to continuously deliver the services that make a difference to children and young people. Ofsted stated in January 2025 that
“An unquestionable strength in North Tyneside is that leaders have created a culture where social workers can safely practice and do their best for children. This authentic approach by leaders and valued investment in the workforce mean that staff want to stay and make a positive difference to children’s lives”
We are currently looking for social workers at all stages in their career to join our Social Work Assessment Teams and our Safe and Supported Teams, and to join Teams that provide “high quality services that improve their (children and families) lives”.
The Social Work Assessment Teams work with children and families from the point of referral, working with families to complete Single Assessments and progressing involvement to Child in Need Plans and Child Protection enquiries where required. The Social Work Assessment Teams also work with Children in our Care until the first Child in our Care Review.
We want the best for children, young people and families and we know to achieve this we have to provide the best for our staff.
Safeguarding intervention is challenging and we want to make sure our staff feel safe in their practice. We offer small supportive team structure, where you benefit from a high level of practice guidance and oversight. In our 2024 Health Check, 100% of colleagues told us that they felt their line manager cared about their welfare. We encourage peer support from your team. You will have access to regular group supervision. Senior managers are visible and accessible so you know you are never alone in the work that you do with children, young people and families.
We have a range of resources and support in place to ensure our staff have a healthy work life balance. These include flexible and agile working arrangements, generous annual leave entitlement and access to fantastic money saving offers across the region. We engage our staff in a range of clinical support opportunities including counselling and Schwartz rounds to combat the emotional strains of the day job. We are committed to continuing to develop this offer and responding to the needs of our teams.
The 2024 Health Check reported that 95% of colleagues feel that North Tyneside promotes a learning culture. We are committed to supporting the development opportunities of our teams and have an extensive in-house training offer as well as access to regional HEI post qualification courses and national learning opportunities. The practice model used in North Tyneside is Signs of Safety, and you will be supported in developing and using this approach. You will receive regular high quality reflective supervision that focuses on case management as well as your own professional development.
We listen to our colleagues and promote various opportunities for leaders to hear your voice. These include regular Children’s Services Health Check and consultation opportunities on the things that matter to you and your work.
Our staff tell us they are happy working with us. 100% of staff in our recent staff Health Check told us they make a significant contribution to achieving positive outcomes for children and families. 94% of our staff told us they would recommend working for North Tyneside Children’s Services to their friends. So isn’t it time you had a look!

Our Carbon Net-Zero 2030 Action Plan
In 2019, North Tyneside Council declared a climate emergency. This declaration set a target to reduce the carbon footprint of the council’s operations, and the borough, by 50% by 2023 and to align to the Government’s net zero target of 2050.
We recognise the significant role we can play in the borough in helping to limit climate change, but we can’t do this alone; we need help from all our residents, businesses, voluntary and community sectors and of course all those who apply and work for us.
